SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Catherine M. Petrak of Benld, who passed
4away on December 5, 2020; and
5 WHEREAS, Catherine Petrak was born to Myrlee R. Staples and
6Mae E. (McNaugh) Staples in Alton on October 19, 1932; and
7 WHEREAS, Catherine Petrak worked for Laclede Steel,
8Mid-State Stone Quarries, Edwardsville Community School
9District #7, the Macoupin County Circuit Clerk's Office, and
10the Association of Illinois Electric Cooperatives; and
11 WHEREAS, Catherine Petrak was elected to three terms as
12Benld City Clerk; she was a former township assessor and served
13on the Macoupin County Board and as a precinct committeeperson;
14she was a member of the Benld Area Democrat Women's Club and
15the Gillespie Area Democrats; she was appointed to the Illinois
16Valley Economic Development Board and was a member of the
17Advisory Council to the Area Agency on Aging for Lincolnland;
18she was also an active member of Build Benld; and
19 WHEREAS, Catherine Petrak was preceded in death by her
20parents and her brothers, Robert Rudin and Roy Staples; and

1 WHEREAS, Catherine Petrak is survived by her children,
2Channing Smith Petrak (Robert) and Jody Petrak, and her
3grandchildren, Gillian Smith and Emerson Smith; therefore, be
4it
5 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
7Catherine M. Petrak and extend our sincere condolences to her
8family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
9further
10 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of Catherine Petrak as an expression of
12our deepest sympathy.
