2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Wayne McClain of Champaign, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on October 15, 2014; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Wayne McClain was born on January 15, 1954 in | ||||||
6 | Peoria; he graduated from Manual High School in Peoria, where | ||||||
7 | he played basketball; he earned his bachelor's degree in | ||||||
8 | physical education from Bradley University, where he also | ||||||
9 | played basketball; he later earned his master's degree from | ||||||
10 | Illinois State University; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Wayne McClain began his teaching career at Blaine | ||||||
12 | Sumner Middle School and Harrison Elementary School (now | ||||||
13 | Harrison Community Learning Center) in Peoria; he then served | ||||||
14 | as assistant basketball coach at Manual High School for 18 | ||||||
15 | years, before being named head coach in 1995; and

16 | WHEREAS, Wayne McClain coached the Manual High School Rams | ||||||
17 | to 3 of the 4 consecutive State championships the school won | ||||||
18 | between 1994 and 1997; in 1997, he was named National High | ||||||
19 | School Coach of the Year and his squad was named National High | ||||||
20 | School Champions; his teaching career included teaching 6th | ||||||
21 | graders, high school physical education, and serving as interim | ||||||
22 | Manual High School Dean of Students; and

1 | WHEREAS, Wayne McClain joined the University of Illinois | ||||||
2 | men's basketball coaching staff under Bill Self and stayed on | ||||||
3 | through Bruce Weber's tenure; he spent 11 years with Illinois, | ||||||
4 | the last 3 as assistant head coach; he was the longest tenured | ||||||
5 | assistant coach in the Big Ten until he left the school in | ||||||
6 | 2012; he spent one year with Bruce Weber at Kansas State | ||||||
7 | University as Director of Student Development and then joined | ||||||
8 | Central High School in Champaign as head coach, where he guided | ||||||
9 | the Maroons to a regional title and a sectional win; as a | ||||||
10 | result, he was named All-Area Boys' Basketball Coach of the | ||||||
11 | Year; in 2005, he was named Best Dressed Coach; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Wayne McClain enjoyed family dinners, BBQs, | ||||||
13 | washing cars, and doing yard work; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Wayne McClain was preceded in death by his mother, | ||||||
15 | Rosetta McClain; a brother, Tony McClain; and a sister, Evelyn | ||||||
16 | McClain; and

17 | WHEREAS, Wayne McClain is survived by his wife, Robin; his | ||||||
18 | son, Sergio McClain, Sr.; daughter, Brindeshie (expected | ||||||
19 | granddaughter, Brindisi McClain-Edwards) McClain; grandson, | ||||||
20 | Sergio McClain, Jr.; brothers, Puegot T., Jerry, and Eddie | ||||||
21 | (Dorothy) McClain; sisters, Rosie and Eunice McClain; and | ||||||
22 | countless friends and other family; therefore, be it

1 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
2 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
3 | Wayne McClain, and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
4 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
5 | further

6 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
7 | presented to the family of Wayne McClain as an expression of | ||||||
8 | our deepest sympathy.
