| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of James R. Balsamello of Westville, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on January 4, 2016; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, James Balsamello was born in Danville on November | ||||||
6 | 8, 1931 to James Vincent and Estelle DuPont Balsamello; he | ||||||
7 | graduated from Westville High School in 1950; he served in the | ||||||
8 | United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955 and was stationed in | ||||||
9 | Japan during the Korean War from 1953 to 1954; he married | ||||||
10 | Judith Emory on November 16, 1957 at Saint Mary's Catholic | ||||||
11 | Church in Westville and remained in the reserve until 1959; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, James Balsamello was a computer system analyst for | ||||||
13 | 40 years, working with General Electric, Hyster, and United | ||||||
14 | Samaritans Hospital; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, James Balsamello was active in civic and community | ||||||
16 | affairs, helping design and make the "Coal Bucket Trophy"; he | ||||||
17 | helped to refurbish the veterans honor roll in the Westville | ||||||
18 | Park and served as Scoutmaster for Troop 234 from 1968 to 1974; | ||||||
19 | he also was a member of the Westville Lions Club for 35 years, | ||||||
20 | serving as President for 2 years; he was Chairman of the Labor | ||||||
21 | Day parade from 1985 to 2003, arranging an F-15 flyover for the | ||||||
22 | parade; and

1 | WHEREAS, James Balsamello was a 60-year member of the | ||||||
2 | Westville American Legion, serving as Commander in 2002 and | ||||||
3 | 18th District Commander in 2003, and was the Adjutant and | ||||||
4 | Chairman of the Illinois Boys State Selection Committee; he | ||||||
5 | also served on the Westville School Board from 1975 to 1983, | ||||||
6 | serving as Board President in 1980; he was a member of the | ||||||
7 | Westville-Belgium Sanitary District from 1975 to 1981 and | ||||||
8 | helped obtained a grant to upgrade the sewer system; he was a | ||||||
9 | member of the Westville Cannon Preservation Committee, helping | ||||||
10 | to restore and return the cannons to the Westville Village | ||||||
11 | Park; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, James Balsamello is survived by his wife, Judith; | ||||||
13 | his 2 sons, Richard Balsamello and Anthony Balsamello; his 2 | ||||||
14 | daughters, Dana (Brian) Quinn and Jennifer (Doug) Toole; his | ||||||
15 | sister, Ernesta Cook; and 7 grandchildren, Laura Quinn, Eileen | ||||||
16 | Quinn, Ryan Quinn, Vincent Balsamello, Lucas Toole, Erin Toole, | ||||||
17 | and Mathew Balsamello; therefore, be it
| ||||||
18 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
19 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
20 | James R. Balsamello, and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
21 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
22 | further
