| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Leonard "Lennie" Joseph Piekarski of | ||||||
4 | Mundelein, who passed away on August 3, 2014; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Lennie Piekarski was born in Milwaukee on June 29, | ||||||
6 | 1926 and lovingly welcomed into the family of Ben and Elizabeth | ||||||
7 | Piekarski through adoption; he joined the United States Navy at | ||||||
8 | the age of 18 and served in the Pacific Theater during World | ||||||
9 | War II; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Lennie Piekarski worked as a letter carrier with | ||||||
11 | the United States Postal Service for 40 years; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Lennie Piekarski began his drum corps career with | ||||||
13 | the Gladstone Junior Corps and continued as a member of the | ||||||
14 | championship Skokie Indians; he then moved on to being the | ||||||
15 | marching and maneuvering instructor of the world championship | ||||||
16 | Chicago Cavaliers and to judging drum corps competitions; he | ||||||
17 | was past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars post #8741 and | ||||||
18 | American Legion post #820, and at the time of his passing he | ||||||
19 | was a member of the Mundelein American Legion Post #867; he was | ||||||
20 | active in coaching his children's baseball, basketball, | ||||||
21 | softball, and football teams; he was a member of Santa Maria | ||||||
22 | del Popolo Parish, the Knights of Columbus, and served as a |

1 | minister of communion; he enjoyed to fishing, golfing, bicycle | ||||||
2 | riding, and cross country skiing; and

3 | WHEREAS, Lennie Piekarski was preceded in death by his | ||||||
4 | parents, Benjamin and Elizabeth Piekarski; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Lennie Piekarski is survived by his wife of 61 | ||||||
6 | years, Joan Piekarski (nee Conrad); their 5 children, Terry | ||||||
7 | (Roger) Krikke, Joe (Helen) Piekarski, Sandy (Brent) Simpson, | ||||||
8 | Carl (Mary) Piekarski, and Patti (David) Hehr; 8 grandchildren, | ||||||
9 | Michelle (John) Dohrwardt, Becky (Chris) Kemper, Elizabeth | ||||||
10 | Krikke, Mark (Rebekah) Krikke, Jim Piekarski, Sarah Krikke, | ||||||
11 | Ashley Piekarski, and Austin Piekarski; and 4 | ||||||
12 | great-grandchildren, Isabell Kemper, John Henry Dohrwardt, | ||||||
13 | Ashton Kemper, and James Dohrwardt; therefore, be it

14 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
15 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
16 | Leonard "Lennie" Joseph Piekarski, and extend our sincere | ||||||
17 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
18 | him; and be it further

19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
20 | presented to the family of Leonard Piekarski as an expression | ||||||
21 | of our deepest sympathy.
