2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Frederick J. "Fred" Zalaznik, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on May 5, 2020; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Fred Zalaznik was born to Joseph and Johanna | ||||||
6 | (Tercek) Zalaznik on May 28, 1924; he attended Waukegan Public | ||||||
7 | High School and served in the U.S. Army in World War II from | ||||||
8 | March of 1943 to December of 1945 as a combat engineer; he | ||||||
9 | served in the European, Mediterranean, African, and Middle | ||||||
10 | Eastern theaters and received combat ribbons for each; he | ||||||
11 | married Marie Repp; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Fred Zalaznik worked for Abbott Laboratories and | ||||||
13 | the North Chicago Police Department before joining the North | ||||||
14 | Chicago Fire Department; he rose through the ranks to become | ||||||
15 | fire chief and was elected president of the Illinois Fire | ||||||
16 | Chiefs Association from 1969 to 1970; and

17 | WHEREAS, Fred Zalaznik served on the North Chicago High | ||||||
18 | School Board and was an instructor for Explorer scouts; he was | ||||||
19 | a hunter, fisherman, gardener, ice skater, cross country skier, | ||||||
20 | bicycle rider, and golfer, which he continued to enjoy into his | ||||||
21 | 80s; he was a member of Mother of God Parish in Waukegan and | ||||||
22 | St. Michael's Church in Keshena, Wisconsin; and

1 | WHEREAS, Fred Zalaznik was preceded in death by his wife, | ||||||
2 | Marie; his sister and brother-in-law, Jennie (John) Zabukovec; | ||||||
3 | and his parents; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Fred Zalaznik is survived by his children, Janet | ||||||
5 | (Martin) Anderson, Lawrence (Debora), Gerald, and John (Grace | ||||||
6 | Anderson); his grandchildren, Anna (Jared) Petersen, Dr. | ||||||
7 | Martin Anderson (Dr. Chelsea Dorsey), David (Allison) | ||||||
8 | Anderson, Cara (Fred) Hoppe, Alex (Deanna) Zalaznik, Anthony | ||||||
9 | Zalaznik, and Rachel Zalaznik; his great-grandchildren, Vada | ||||||
10 | and Mayim Petersen, Kamryn, Evelynn, and Vivian Hoppe, Wyatt | ||||||
11 | and Nolan Anderson, and Lily and Eva Anderson; his | ||||||
12 | sisters-in-law, Marge (the late Gil) Heaphy and RoseAnn (the | ||||||
13 | late Adolph) Jerdee and their families; and his nieces, Jamie | ||||||
14 | (Larry Thompson) Zabukovec, Judy Derra, Janice (Richard) | ||||||
15 | Davis, and Julie (Robert McKay) Zabukovec; therefore, be it

16 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
17 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
18 | Frederick J. "Fred" Zalaznik and extend our sincere condolences | ||||||
19 | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | ||||||
20 | it further

21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
22 | presented to the family of Fred Zalaznik as an expression of |
