1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Helen Rumsa of Waukegan, who passed away | ||||||
4 | on June 11, 2020; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Helen Rumsa was born to Frank and Anna Rumsa on | ||||||
6 | June 10, 1924 and lived in Waukegan her entire life; she | ||||||
7 | attended St. Bartholomew Grade School and graduated from | ||||||
8 | Waukegan Township High School in 1942; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Helen Rumsa was quite proud of the fact that the | ||||||
10 | owner of Bertrand Bowling Lanes noticed
her exemplary math | ||||||
11 | skills as her bowling team's record keeper and offered her a
| ||||||
12 | job as secretary/bookkeeper, a position she held for
over 40 | ||||||
13 | years; prior to this, she was
an executive secretary at | ||||||
14 | American Steel & Wire Co in Waukegan; she also served as a | ||||||
15 | board member and board secretary for the Bank of Waukegan; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Helen Rumsa was a member of St. Dismas and | ||||||
17 | previously a member of St. Bartholomew, both in Waukegan; in | ||||||
18 | 1979, she was chosen to carry the gifts to the altar when Pope | ||||||
19 | John Paul II visited Chicago and said Mass in Grant Park; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Helen Rumsa was an avid golfer and bowler and | ||||||
21 | competed in bowling tournaments in San Francisco, Reno, and Las |

1 | Vegas; she was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs; she enjoyed | ||||||
2 | traveling to Las Vegas with her brother and sister-in-law, and | ||||||
3 | more recently, visiting casinos with her brother and sister; | ||||||
4 | and

5 | WHEREAS, Helen Rumsa was preceded in death by her parents; | ||||||
6 | her sister-in-law, Phyllis Rumsa; her niece, Mary Patricia; her | ||||||
7 | great-nieces, Heather, Amy, and Anne Marie; and her | ||||||
8 | great-great-niece, Riley; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Helen Rumsa is survived by her sister, Loretta | ||||||
10 | Rumsa; her brother, James Rumsa; her nieces, LuAnn (George) | ||||||
11 | Nelson), Julie (Larry) O'Brien, and Mary Oakes; her | ||||||
12 | great-nieces and nephews, Katie, Erin (Josh), Andy (Meg), | ||||||
13 | Brian, Kevin (Jillian), and DJ; and her great-great-niece, | ||||||
14 | Blakely; therefore, be it

15 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
16 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
17 | Helen Rumsa and extend our sincere condolences to her family, | ||||||
18 | friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further
| ||||||
19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
20 | presented to the family of Helen Rumsa as an expression of our | ||||||
21 | deepest sympathy.
