2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Kenneth Van Dyne "Ken" Fiske of | ||||||
4 | Woodstock, who passed away on December 20, 2017; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Ken Fiske was born in Chicago to Kenneth M. and | ||||||
6 | Eunice (Van Dyne) Fiske on April 18, 1925; he graduated from | ||||||
7 | the United States Merchant Marine Academy and served with the | ||||||
8 | U.S. Navy during World War II, achieving the rank of Lieutenant | ||||||
9 | Junior Grade; he graduated from the University of | ||||||
10 | Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in agricultural engineering, | ||||||
11 | where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity; he | ||||||
12 | married Darlene Sharp in 1954; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Ken Fiske worked in Chicago as a television | ||||||
14 | producer at NBC, creating the show "Out on the Farm"; he then | ||||||
15 | worked with the National Safety Council and the Velsicol | ||||||
16 | Chemical Company; he was a founder of the Northeast Illinois | ||||||
17 | Natural Resource Center based at the Morton Arboretum; in 1971, | ||||||
18 | he became the first Executive Director of the newly-formed | ||||||
19 | McHenry County Conservation District; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Ken Fiske was named to the Illinois Outdoor Hall | ||||||
21 | of Fame in 2004 and received the U.S. Merchant Marine Alumni | ||||||
22 | Association's Outstanding Professional Achievement Award in |

1 | 2006; he was a member of the Wisconsin Agricultural Alumni | ||||||
2 | Association; he and his wife, Darlene, were named the Nature | ||||||
3 | Conservancy's Volunteers of the Year in 1987 and the National | ||||||
4 | Fish and Wildlife Foundation's Refuge Volunteers of the Year in | ||||||
5 | 2004; and

6 | WHEREAS, Ken Fiske was preceded in death by his parents and | ||||||
7 | his wife, Darlene; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Ken Fiske is survived by his daughters, Diana | ||||||
9 | (David) Wilson, Jennifer Fiske, and Nancy (Ron) Readel; his | ||||||
10 | grandchildren, Matthew (Kate) Wilson and Timothy (Nina Beck) | ||||||
11 | Wilson; his great-grandchildren, Elliot and Nora Wilson; and | ||||||
12 | his sister, Virginia Boorom; therefore, be it

13 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
14 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
15 | Kenneth Van Dyne "Ken" Fiske, and extend our sincere | ||||||
16 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
17 | him; and be it further

18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
19 | presented to the family of Ken Fiske as an expression of our | ||||||
20 | deepest sympathy.
