2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Matthew "Matt" Gene Scheffler of Lake | ||||||
4 | Geneva, Wisconsin on November 26, 2020; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Matt Scheffler was born to Catherine L. Scheffler | ||||||
6 | and William A. Scheffler on August 17, 1980; he was a scholar | ||||||
7 | athlete alumnus of Springfield High School and Southern | ||||||
8 | Illinois University-Carbondale, where he received a full | ||||||
9 | scholarship for football while simultaneously earning his | ||||||
10 | Civil Engineering degree and MBA; he married Eileen Green in | ||||||
11 | County Mayo, Ireland in July of 2014; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Matt Scheffler worked as a civil engineer for | ||||||
13 | Knight E/A; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Matt Scheffler's greatest joys were watching his | ||||||
15 | kids swim, traveling the world, dancing at weddings, planning | ||||||
16 | epic game day events, selling tickets, sending text GIFs, and | ||||||
17 | sitting on the front porch listening to music;
he served as the | ||||||
18 | resident commissioner for office fantasy leagues and | ||||||
19 | considered many of his colleagues to be close friends; he was | ||||||
20 | forever loyal to his friends, to his family, and to his | ||||||
21 | Minnesota Vikings; he participated in multiple triathlons, mud | ||||||
22 | runs, and basketball leagues; he was a rare mix of |

1 | intelligence, decisiveness, and confidence, yet maintained an | ||||||
2 | easy-going temperament and always stayed humble; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, At the time of his death, Matt Scheffler was | ||||||
4 | survived by his wife, Eileen Scheffler; his children, Maura, | ||||||
5 | Laird, and Brennan Scheffler; his siblings, Brad (Jennifer) | ||||||
6 | Scheffler, Sara (Shane) Behl, and Elizabeth (Brian) Murphy; | ||||||
7 | his uncles, Michael (Marlyn) Hollembeak and Mark (Martha) | ||||||
8 | Scheffler; his nieces and nephews, Emma, Brody, Chloe, Jacob, | ||||||
9 | Ava, and Landon Scheffler, Cate, Drew, Jack, and Alex Behl, | ||||||
10 | and Norah, Irene, and Gus Murphy; his mother-in-law and | ||||||
11 | father-in-law, Catherine T. "Tykee" Green and Francis P. | ||||||
12 | Green; and his friends, Michael Green, Maggie Green Cambria, | ||||||
13 | Patrick (Rene) Green, Katie Green, and Molly Green; therefore, | ||||||

15 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
16 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
17 | Matthew "Matt" Gene Scheffler and extend our sincere | ||||||
18 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
19 | him; and be it further

20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
21 | presented to the family of Matt Scheffler as an expression of | ||||||
22 | our deepest sympathy.
