2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Warren Ray Thom
of Plainfield, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on May 27, 2020; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Warren Thom was born in Decatur to Bernice and | ||||||
6 | Elmer Thom on September 5, 1946; he graduated from Eisenhower | ||||||
7 | High School in Decatur in 1964; he attended Miami University of | ||||||
8 | Ohio and then graduated from Illinois State University with a | ||||||
9 | bachelor's degree in science in 1970; he married Susan Floyd; | ||||||
10 | and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Warren Thom taught in the science department at | ||||||
12 | Amos Alonzo Stagg High School in Palos Hills for his entire | ||||||
13 | 33-year career; he coached basketball, cross-country, and | ||||||
14 | track and helped with many athletic activities; he was active | ||||||
15 | in the teacher's association and enjoyed attending retired | ||||||
16 | teacher events; and

17 | WHEREAS, Warren Thom and Susan liked to travel with their | ||||||
18 | family and as a couple; they visited all 50 states and numerous | ||||||
19 | countries, often with the American and British Sundial | ||||||
20 | Associations to visit historic sundial sights; Warren | ||||||
21 | especially liked visiting France, Scotland, and the U.S. | ||||||
22 | Pacific Northwest; and

1 | WHEREAS, Warren Thom was involved with the Will County | ||||||
2 | Democrats and the Plainfield Township Democrats; he served as | ||||||
3 | township precinct committeeman; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Warren Thom was a member of the Universalist | ||||||
5 | Unitarian Church of Joliet for 48 years; he served in many | ||||||
6 | leadership roles and enjoyed the free ranging discussion in the | ||||||
7 | Sunday adult discussion group; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Warren Thom was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
9 | and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Warren Thom is survived by his wife of over 50 | ||||||
11 | years, Susan; his sons and daughters-in-law, Warren "Ray" Jr. | ||||||
12 | (Tonja), Samuel (Crystal), Matthew (Tatiana), and Benjamin | ||||||
13 | (Jennifer); his grandchildren, Skylar, Tres, Caden, Bryden, | ||||||
14 | Kylee, Noah, Savanna, Tobias, Lucas, and Genevieve; his | ||||||
15 | brother, Wayne; his sisters, Reva and Marilyn; and many nieces | ||||||
16 | and nephews; therefore, be it

17 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
18 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
19 | Warren Ray Thom and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
20 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
21 | further
