SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Dwain "Chris" Christofferson of Moline,
4who passed away on May 19, 2020; and
5 WHEREAS, Chris Christofferson was born to Oscar and Bernice
6(Swanson) Christofferson in Moline on October 23, 1924; he
7graduated from Moline High School and attended the University
8of Illinois Extension Center; he served in the U.S. Army in
9WWII where he was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge; Chris
10married Irene Hoegner in May of 1949; and
11 WHEREAS, Chris Christofferson was a supervisor in the
12Production Control, Product Engineering, and Personnel
13Departments at Deere Plow-Planter Works; he was then president
14and treasurer of the Deere & Co. Credit Union; he served on the
15Governor's Advisory Board for Credit Unions, was president of
16the Council of Credit Union Executives Society, and served as
17the first elected president of the merged Plow & Planter Credit
18Unions; he also worked for the Volunteer Firemen's Insurance
19Company from which he received an Eagle Award as well as many
20other awards for outstanding salesmanship and service;
21following his retirement, he worked as a consultant for John
22Deere Harvester Credit Union; and

1 WHEREAS, Chris Christofferson was a member of Immanuel
2Lutheran Church in Rock Island; he was a Charter Member of the
3Moline Second Alarmers, founded in 1952, and remained a member
4for 40 years; he was also a member of the Moline Rotary Club,
5the Upper Rock Island County Chamber of Commerce, the Veterans
6of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, Disabled American
7Veterans, and the Military Order of the Purple Heart; he also
8served as the original chairman of Moline Riverfest from 1983
9to 1986; and
10 WHEREAS, Chris Christofferson was preceded in death by his
11parents and his sister, Virginia Kirk; and
12 WHEREAS, Chris Christofferson is survived by his wife,
13Irene; his children, Susan Christofferson, Nancy (Mark)
14Herman, and Paul (Kathy) Christofferson; his grandchildren,
15Lauren (Tim) Corwin, Haley Walker, and Christopher
16Christofferson; his nephews, Randy and Chris Kirk; and his
17brother-in-law, George Kirk; therefore, be it
18 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20Dwain "Chris" Christofferson and extend our sincere
21condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
22him; and be it further
