| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Dominic E. "Ditty" Lynch Jr. of Watseka, | ||||||
4 | who passed away on May 10, 2020; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Dominic Lynch Jr. was born to Dominic E. and Mary | ||||||
6 | Ellen Nally Lynch Sr. on July 3, 1928; he graduated from | ||||||
7 | Watseka High School in 1946 and Western Illinois University in | ||||||
8 | 1953, where he earned three varsity letters in football, was | ||||||
9 | named First Team Defensive Player of the Year, and was inducted | ||||||
10 | into the Western IL University Football Hall of Fame in 1983; | ||||||
11 | he served in the U.S. Army under the 1st Infantry Division | ||||||
12 | during WWII and was stationed in Bad Tolz, Germany; he married | ||||||
13 | Bonnie L. Scott in Macomb on August 16, 1952, and she preceded | ||||||
14 | him in death on February 17, 2018; he was a lifetime citizen of | ||||||
15 | Watseka; and

16 | WHEREAS, Alongside his brother Jack, Dominic Lynch Jr. | ||||||
17 | carried on his father's business as the former owner, operator, | ||||||
18 | and vice chairman of the D.E. Lynch Construction Company, which | ||||||
19 | later became the Iroquois Paving Corporation; he served as | ||||||
20 | president of the Illinois Asphalt Pavement Association two | ||||||
21 | times and was a member of the Associated General Contractors of | ||||||
22 | Illinois; and

1 | WHEREAS, Dominic Lynch Jr. was committed to his faith and | ||||||
2 | was a member of St. Edmund Catholic Church; he was a Fourth | ||||||
3 | Degree Knights of Columbus and was actively involved in several | ||||||
4 | other organizations, including the Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity | ||||||
5 | at Western Illinois University, the Watseka Chamber of | ||||||
6 | Commerce, the Watseka Lions Club, the Watseka American Legion, | ||||||
7 | the Union League Club of Chicago, and the Watseka Elks Lodge | ||||||
8 | No. 1791, where he had served as a past exalted ruler; he was | ||||||
9 | also a member of the Shewami Country Club, where he was | ||||||
10 | instrumental in organizing the construction of the back nine in | ||||||
11 | 1984; he was a recipient of the Western Illinois University | ||||||
12 | Alumni Association Achievement Award, the WCHS Athletic | ||||||
13 | Achievement Award, and the Sam Walton Business Leader Award; | ||||||
14 | and

15 | WHEREAS, Nothing brought Dominic Lynch Jr. more joy than | ||||||
16 | his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; he | ||||||
17 | especially enjoyed watching them participate in WCHS Athletics | ||||||
18 | and rarely missed a game or an event; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Dominic Lynch Jr. was preceded in death by his | ||||||
20 | wife; his parents; and his brothers, John (Jack) Lynch and | ||||||
21 | Patrick Martin Lynch; and
| ||||||
22 | WHEREAS, Dominic Lynch Jr. is survived by his son, Michael | ||||||
23 | (Patti) Lynch; his daughters, Nancy Cowan, Kathy (Joe) Kubal, |

1 | Chris (Kevin) Bossong, and Jennifer (Mike) Dixon; his 12 | ||||||
2 | grandchildren; and his seven great-grandchildren; therefore, | ||||||
3 | be it

4 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
5 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
6 | Dominic E. "Ditty" Lynch Jr. and extend our sincere condolences | ||||||
7 | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | ||||||
8 | it further

9 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
10 | presented to the family of Dominic Lynch Jr. as an expression | ||||||
11 | of our deepest sympathy.
