SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Dominic E. "Ditty" Lynch Jr. of Watseka,
4who passed away on May 10, 2020; and
5 WHEREAS, Dominic Lynch Jr. was born to Dominic E. and Mary
6Ellen Nally Lynch Sr. on July 3, 1928; he graduated from
7Watseka High School in 1946 and Western Illinois University in
81953, where he earned three varsity letters in football, was
9named First Team Defensive Player of the Year, and was inducted
10into the Western IL University Football Hall of Fame in 1983;
11he served in the U.S. Army under the 1st Infantry Division
12during WWII and was stationed in Bad Tolz, Germany; he married
13Bonnie L. Scott in Macomb on August 16, 1952, and she preceded
14him in death on February 17, 2018; he was a lifetime citizen of
15Watseka; and
16 WHEREAS, Alongside his brother Jack, Dominic Lynch Jr.
17carried on his father's business as the former owner, operator,
18and vice chairman of the D.E. Lynch Construction Company, which
19later became the Iroquois Paving Corporation; he served as
20president of the Illinois Asphalt Pavement Association two
21times and was a member of the Associated General Contractors of
22Illinois; and

1 WHEREAS, Dominic Lynch Jr. was committed to his faith and
2was a member of St. Edmund Catholic Church; he was a Fourth
3Degree Knights of Columbus and was actively involved in several
4other organizations, including the Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity
5at Western Illinois University, the Watseka Chamber of
6Commerce, the Watseka Lions Club, the Watseka American Legion,
7the Union League Club of Chicago, and the Watseka Elks Lodge
8No. 1791, where he had served as a past exalted ruler; he was
9also a member of the Shewami Country Club, where he was
10instrumental in organizing the construction of the back nine in
111984; he was a recipient of the Western Illinois University
12Alumni Association Achievement Award, the WCHS Athletic
13Achievement Award, and the Sam Walton Business Leader Award;
14and
15 WHEREAS, Nothing brought Dominic Lynch Jr. more joy than
16his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; he
17especially enjoyed watching them participate in WCHS Athletics
18and rarely missed a game or an event; and
19 WHEREAS, Dominic Lynch Jr. was preceded in death by his
20wife; his parents; and his brothers, John (Jack) Lynch and
21Patrick Martin Lynch; and
22 WHEREAS, Dominic Lynch Jr. is survived by his son, Michael
23(Patti) Lynch; his daughters, Nancy Cowan, Kathy (Joe) Kubal,

1Chris (Kevin) Bossong, and Jennifer (Mike) Dixon; his 12
2grandchildren; and his seven great-grandchildren; therefore,
3be it
4 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
6Dominic E. "Ditty" Lynch Jr. and extend our sincere condolences
7to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
8it further
9 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the family of Dominic Lynch Jr. as an expression
11of our deepest sympathy.
