2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are deeply | ||||||
3 | saddened to learn of the death of Paul DesCoteaux of Geneva, | ||||||
4 | who passed away on December 5, 2012; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Paul DesCoteaux was born on December 7, 1928, to | ||||||
6 | William and Aldea (nee Soucy) DesCoteaux in Lowell, | ||||||
7 | Massachusetts; he graduated from Lowell Technical Institute | ||||||
8 | (University of Massachusetts) as a textile engineer; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Paul DesCoteaux worked for the Sun Oil Company, | ||||||
10 | Standard Oil of Indiana (BP Amoco), and the Lebanon Seaboard | ||||||
11 | Corporation; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Paul DesCoteaux was a lifelong learner; he | ||||||
13 | volunteered for Fox Valley Literacy, was the founder of the | ||||||
14 | Franklin Award and Scholarship for Science Education, and | ||||||
15 | served on the board of directors of the Fermilab Friends for | ||||||
16 | Science Education; he was co-founder of Geneva Learners, a | ||||||
17 | weekly study group focused on world affairs; he helped organize | ||||||
18 | the Fox Valley chapter of the Socrates Cafe, a global network | ||||||
19 | of independent groups that meet to keep philosophical thinking | ||||||
20 | alive; he was founder of the Geneva Beautification Committee; | ||||||
21 | and he served as an alderman in Geneva for 21 years and as its | ||||||
22 | interim mayor in 1996; and

1 | WHEREAS, Paul DesCoteaux was preceded in death by his | ||||||
2 | parents, William and Aldea DesCoteaux; his brother, Albert; and | ||||||
3 | his granddaughters, Josephine and Margaret; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Paul DesCoteaux is survived by his wife of 60 | ||||||
5 | years, Terry; his children, Denise (David) Fauntleroy, Paul | ||||||
6 | (Kerith) DesCoteaux, Andrea DesCoteaux, David (Beverly) | ||||||
7 | DesCoteaux, and Aimee (Daniel) Rogowski; his grandchildren, | ||||||
8 | Patrick, Andrew, Reinier, Emily, and Eleanor; his nieces and | ||||||
9 | nephews, Diane Peters, Nancy DiRocco (Peter), Gail DesCoteaux, | ||||||
10 | David (Annette) DesCoteaux, and Steven DesCoteaux; therefore, | ||||||
11 | be it

12 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | ||||||
13 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
14 | Paul DesCoteaux, and we extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
15 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
16 | further

17 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
18 | presented to the family of Paul DesCoteaux as an expression of | ||||||
19 | our deepest sympathy.
