| 2 | WHEREAS, February 2020 has been designated Career and | ||||||
| 3 | Technical Education Month by the Association for Career and | ||||||
| 4 | Technical Education; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Career and technical education offers students | ||||||
| 6 | the opportunity to gain the academic, technical, and | ||||||
| 7 | employability skills necessary for true career readiness; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Students in career and technical education | ||||||
| 9 | programs participate in authentic, meaningful experiences that | ||||||
| 10 | improve the quality of their education and increase their | ||||||
| 11 | engagement and achievement; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Career and technical education provides students | ||||||
| 13 | with career exploration opportunities earlier in their | ||||||
| 14 | educational experience, which enables them to make informed and | ||||||
| 15 | beneficial decisions about their academic coursework and | ||||||
| 16 | pursue established programs of study and career pathways; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Leaders from business and industry nationwide | ||||||
| 18 | report increasing challenges related to addressing the skills | ||||||
| 19 | gap and connecting qualified professionals with available | ||||||
| 20 | careers in critical and growing CTE-related fields, including | ||||||
| 21 | healthcare, energy, advanced manufacturing, cybersecurity, and | ||||||

| 1 | information technology; and

| 2 | WHEREAS, Career and technical education prepares students | ||||||
| 3 | for these and other fulfilling careers by offering integrated | ||||||
| 4 | programs of study that link secondary and postsecondary | ||||||
| 5 | education and lead to the attainment of industry-recognized | ||||||
| 6 | credentials; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Career and technical education programs ensure | ||||||
| 8 | that employers have access to a qualified and thriving | ||||||
| 9 | workforce, ensuring America has a strong and competitive | ||||||
| 10 | economy; therefore, be it

| 11 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
| 12 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare February of | ||||||
| 13 | 2020 as Career and Technical Education Month in the State of | ||||||
| 14 | Illinois.
