| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Deirdre Marie Clayton, who passed away | ||||||
4 | on January 2, 2022; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Deirdre Clayton married Charles Clayton at | ||||||
6 | Trinity Episcopal Church in Chicago on September 2, 1978; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Deirdre Clayton was committed to her faith; she | ||||||
8 | was baptized and confirmed at Atonement Episcopal Church in | ||||||
9 | Washington, D.C.; she later attended Trinity Episcopal Church | ||||||
10 | in Chicago, where she served as Sunday school superintendent; | ||||||
11 | alongside her family, she transferred to St. Edmund's | ||||||
12 | Episcopal Church in Chicago, where she served as the high | ||||||
13 | school Sunday school teacher; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Alongside her husband, Deirdre Clayton eventually | ||||||
15 | transferred to the Church of the Holy Family in Park Forest, | ||||||
16 | where she was an active part of community outreach, | ||||||
17 | coordinating health fairs, Halloween parties, and spaghetti | ||||||
18 | dinners for the community; she also helped coordinate the | ||||||
19 | church's annual participation in the Park Forest Youth Day; | ||||||
20 | she and her husband hosted their 40th wedding anniversary | ||||||
21 | party at the church as a fundraiser, raising more than $3,000; | ||||||

1 | WHEREAS, In her later years, Deirdre Clayton was active | ||||||
2 | with her sorority in the Joliet Area/South Suburban Alumnae | ||||||
3 | Chapter and rekindled her friendships with Sorors from Zeta | ||||||
4 | Chi; she also joined the Provident Women's Auxiliary to help | ||||||
5 | at Provident Hospital; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, After retirement, Deirdre Clayton and her husband | ||||||
7 | took stepping classes, traveled to Cuba, and saw every | ||||||
8 | musical, play, and concert in town with their friends and | ||||||
9 | family; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Deirdre Clayton was preceded in death by her | ||||||
11 | father, Raymond Ward; her mother, Dolores; and her brother, | ||||||
12 | Raymond (Scott) Jr.; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Deirdre Clayton is survived by her husband, | ||||||
14 | Charles Clayton Sr.; her son, Charles (Crystal) Clayton Jr.; | ||||||
15 | her daughter, Christina; her nieces, Courtney (Donald) Corbin, | ||||||
16 | Angie (Ben) Gardner, and Danielle Clayton; her nephews, George | ||||||
17 | (Valerie) Edmondson Jr., Lewis Powell, and Scott (Nicole) | ||||||
18 | Hall; her first cousins, Anton Welsh and Eva Jean McRae; her | ||||||
19 | sisters-in-law, Belinda Ward and Pam Edmondson; a host of | ||||||
20 | cousins; and her many friends; therefore, be it
