| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Robert "Bob" Reif of Waukegan, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on August 29, 2017; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Robert Reif was born on July 5, 1927 and raised in | ||||||
6 | Sheboygan, Wisconsin by Harry and Wilma Reif; he joined the | ||||||
7 | United States Navy on July 2, 1945, just prior to his 17th | ||||||
8 | birthday; he received the Good Conduct Medal, the National | ||||||
9 | Defense Service Medal, the American Campaign Medal, and the | ||||||
10 | World War II Victory Medal; he earned his graduate degree from | ||||||
11 | Roosevelt University in Chicago and married Virginia May | ||||||
12 | Mitchell in Sheboygan, Wisconsin on October 29, 1949; and

13 | WHEREAS, Robert Reif ended his naval career when he retired | ||||||
14 | from the Naval Station Great Lakes after 20 years of service as | ||||||
15 | a chief and corpsman; he worked for Louis's Restaurant, the | ||||||
16 | Stone Container Corporation, and Mac Realty; he was also a | ||||||
17 | partner in ownership of a metal fabricating company; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Robert Reif was an avid bowler, ferocious | ||||||
19 | gardener, and serious fisherman; he spent countless hours in | ||||||
20 | his boat with his son, David, trying to catch that "one" fish; | ||||||
21 | his talents in the kitchen yielded amazing pizza; he was the | ||||||
22 | one that family members went to for advice on finances, real |

1 | estate, gardening, and numerous other subjects; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Robert Reif was preceded in death by his daughter, | ||||||
3 | Bobbie Fantus; his sister, Barbara Reif; and his brother, John | ||||||
4 | "Hunts" Reif; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Robert Reif is survived by his wife of over 67 | ||||||
6 | years, Virginia "Ginny"; his children, Mitchell Reif; Linda | ||||||
7 | Reif-Melius and her husband, Jim, their daughter, Alison, and | ||||||
8 | their son, Max; David Reif, his wife, Tracy, their son, Jason, | ||||||
9 | his wife, Cierra, and their daughter, Katie; Susan Reif-Eng and | ||||||
10 | her sons, Bryant and Christian; Robert's son-in-law, Jim | ||||||
11 | Fantus, his sons, Michael and his partner, Steven Styrsky, | ||||||
12 | Richard, and Matthew, his wife, Natalie, and son Peter; | ||||||
13 | therefore, be it

14 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
15 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
16 | Robert "Bob" Reif, and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
17 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
18 | further

19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
20 | presented to the family of Robert Reif as an expression of our | ||||||
21 | deepest sympathy.
