2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to | ||||||
3 | congratulate Arles Hendershott Love on being inducted into | ||||||
4 | Illinois State University School of Communications, TV-10 Hall | ||||||
5 | of Fame; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Arles Hendershott Love graduated from Illinois | ||||||
7 | State University in 1979, which celebrates the 50th | ||||||
8 | anniversary of its broadcasting program in April 2024; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Arles Hendershott Love has worked as reporter, | ||||||
10 | photographer, producer, and assignment editor; she was named | ||||||
11 | news director at WIFR in 1986, a time when less than 5% of news | ||||||
12 | directors in the country were female; she became community | ||||||
13 | relations director for WIFR and Benedek Broadcasting in 1997; | ||||||
14 | and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Arles Hendershott Love served as the state | ||||||
16 | coordinator for the Radio Television Digital News Association | ||||||
17 | from 1989 to 1993 and 1995 to 1996; she was on the Associated | ||||||
18 | Press Illinois Advisory Board from 1989 to 1992, serving as | ||||||
19 | president from 1991 to 1992; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Arles Hendershott Love regularly lectured to | ||||||
21 | writing and broadcasting classes at Northern Illinois |

1 | University and Rock Valley College from 1986 to 1997; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Arles Hendershott Love's community work includes | ||||||
3 | serving in leadership positions on many community boards; she | ||||||
4 | developed a telethon for the Rockford Rescue Mission at WIFR, | ||||||
5 | which is now in its 27th year and has raised over three million | ||||||
6 | dollars, and she produced a telethon while at WIFR for the | ||||||
7 | restoration of Rockford's historic Coronado Theater that | ||||||
8 | raised over $200,000 in one night; she chaired the American | ||||||
9 | Heart Association HeartWalk and oversaw its growth from | ||||||
10 | raising $20,000 a year to over $100,000; she coordinated the | ||||||
11 | donation of a Children's TV studio to the Discovery Center | ||||||
12 | Museum in Rockford; she developed a coat drive for the | ||||||
13 | Rockford Salvation Army that collects and distributes | ||||||
14 | thousands of coats each year, mostly to children, a drive that | ||||||
15 | has continued for over 25 years; and

16 | WHEREAS, Arles Hendershott Love became the development | ||||||
17 | director at Milestone in 2005, the largest provider of | ||||||
18 | services to children and adults with developmental | ||||||
19 | disabilities in Northern Illinois; after 18 years on the job, | ||||||
20 | over $24 million dollars had been raised; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Arles Hendershott Love's legislative involvement | ||||||
22 | includes successfully lobbying for the AED/Good Samaritan Law | ||||||
23 | in Illinois, working on several pieces of legislation designed |

1 | to help the disabled community, lobbying for funding for | ||||||
2 | disability services, and lobbying for a military designated | ||||||
3 | license plate in Illinois for the U.S. Coast Guard; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Arles Hendershott Love has received numerous | ||||||
5 | awards and recognitions throughout the years, including the | ||||||
6 | 1986 A.P. Award for Best Spot News Coverage Downstate T.V. | ||||||
7 | State of Illinois, the 1986 JayCees Presidential Award of | ||||||
8 | Honor for Community Service, the 1989 Special Olympics Media | ||||||
9 | Appreciation Award for State of Illinois, the 1991 YWCA Leader | ||||||
10 | Luncheon Award for Outstanding Professional Woman of the Year, | ||||||
11 | the 1992 A.P. Advisory Board Presidential Service Award, and | ||||||
12 | the 1995 Rockford Area Crimestoppers of the Year; in 1998, she | ||||||
13 | received the On the Waterfront Weekend Warrior Award, the | ||||||
14 | Winnebago/Boone American Heart Association Volunteer Service | ||||||
15 | Award, and the Rock River Valley United Way Volunteer Award; | ||||||
16 | she received the 2000 Distinguished Service Award | ||||||
17 | Winnebago/Boone Counties American Heart Association and the | ||||||
18 | 2001 American Red Cross Outstanding Service Award; she | ||||||
19 | received the 2003 Alpine Kiwanis Touch A Life Award for | ||||||
20 | Outstanding Community Service, the 2008 Rockford Rescue | ||||||
21 | Mission Volunteer Service Award, and the 2009 RAMP United Way | ||||||
22 | Volunteer of the Year; she was also awarded the Lifescape | ||||||
23 | Community Services Golden Star Award for Volunteer Support; | ||||||

1 | WHEREAS, Arles Hendershott Love was appointed to the | ||||||
2 | Illinois State University School of Communications Advisory | ||||||
3 | Board and was named the School of Communications Homecoming | ||||||
4 | Honored Alumni in 2021; and

5 | WHEREAS, Arles Hendershott Love has been listed in | ||||||
6 | Outstanding Young Women in America, Who's Who in the Midwest, | ||||||
7 | Who's Who in Entertainment, Who's Who in America, Who's Who of | ||||||
8 | American Women, and the America's Registry of Outstanding | ||||||
9 | Professionals; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Arles Hendershott Love has remained committed to | ||||||
11 | Illinois State University; she funds a scholarship each year | ||||||
12 | for TV-10 students and visits the campus on a regular basis to | ||||||
13 | mentor students; therefore, be it

14 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
15 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Arles | ||||||
16 | Hendershott Love on being inducted into Illinois State | ||||||
17 | University School of Communications, TV-10 Hall of Fame; and | ||||||
