SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are deeply
saddened to learn of the death of Terrence N. "Monk" Tiernan of
Waukegan, who passed away on July 19, 2012; and
WHEREAS, Terrence Tiernan was born on May 9, 1938, in
Waukegan; he graduated from Waukegan High School and joined the
Marine Corps in 1956; he served for three years and wrestled on
the USMC team; he attended the University of Illinois in
Champaign and wrestled there also; and
WHEREAS, Terrence Tiernan was a computer systems analyst
for most of his career; he worked at Outboard Marine
Corporation, Snap On Tools, and Brunswick Corporation; he also
owned or partnered in local businesses, including Action
Office, TnT's Tap, and Badger Egg; he retired from civil
service at USMEPCOM as Director of Information Management in
2002; and
WHEREAS, Terrence Tiernan was a member of the Lake County
Marine Corps League and a founding member of The Society for
the Preservation and Encouragement of Automobile Racing and
Beer Drinking in America; and
WHEREAS, Terrence Tiernan loved spending time with his

family and friends; he enjoyed golfing, attending auto races,
fishing, restoring his 1967 Sunbeam Tiger, cooking, wintering
in Ft. Myers, Florida, and the occasional cocktail; he had two
holes-in-one while golfing, had a quick wit, and loved telling
funny stories; and
WHEREAS, Terrence Tiernan was preceded in death by his
parents, Matthew Tiernan and Magdalen Ditter; his first wife,
Kathleen; his brother, James Tiernan; his sister, Patricia; and
his stepfather, Richard Ditter; and
WHEREAS, Terrence Tiernan is survived by his wife of 24
years, Margery (Brecheisen) Tiernan; his son, Michael (Myrta)
Tiernan; and his grandchildren, Bryan and James Tiernan;
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
Terrence Tiernan, and we extend our sincere condolences to his
family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
sympathy.
