SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Donald A. Jacoby of Alton, who passed
4 away on May 22, 2010; and
5 WHEREAS, He was born on April 11, 1927 in Alton, the son of
6 Phillip and Ruth (Herrmann) Jacoby; he married the former
7 Jacqueline A. "Jackie" Olsby on June 21, 1950; and
8 WHEREAS, He attended Alton High School and Westminster
9 College in Fulton, Missouri; he belonged to the College Avenue
10 Presbyterian Church for 60 years and served as a trustee,
11 deacon, and elder; he was involved in scouting and the men's
12 breakfast at church as well; and
13 WHEREAS, After high school he served in the United States
14 Navy during World War II as a Pharmacist Mate and Corpsman; and
15 WHEREAS, He lived in the Alton area all his life; he was
16 the president and co-owner, with his cousin Jack Jacoby, of
17 Jacoby Furniture in Alton for 48 years; after the closing of
18 the store, they donated the building and it is now the Jacoby
19 Arts Center; and
20 WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents;

1 his son, Stephen Jacoby; and his brother, Monte Jacoby; and
2 WHEREAS, Donald Jacoby is survived by his son, Scott A.
3 Jacoby; his cousin, Jack Jacoby; his sister-in-law, Dolly
4 Olsby; and his special friend, Jan Hines; therefore, be it
5 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
6 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
7 his family and friends, the passing of Donald Jacoby; and be it
8 further
9 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10 presented to the family of Donald Jacoby as a symbol of our
11 sincere sympathy.
