2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Charles Robert "Chuck" McMullen of | ||||||
4 | Quincy, who passed away on February 22, 2024; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Chuck McMullen, the son of Hazel (Andersen) | ||||||
6 | McMullen, was born in Springfield on November 24, 1936; he | ||||||
7 | attended Lanphier High School before studying electronics at | ||||||
8 | DeVry Institute of Technology; he served in the Illinois | ||||||
9 | National Guard; he married Sherene "Shari" Louise Rueter at | ||||||
10 | Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ in Quincy on August | ||||||
11 | 23, 1958; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Chuck McMullen worked as a television engineer at | ||||||
13 | WGEM, retiring in 2008 after 48 years of service; during his | ||||||
14 | career, he was noted for his work ethic; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Chuck McMullen was an active member of the Elks | ||||||
16 | Club and the Woodworkers Club; he was passionately involved | ||||||
17 | with the Honor Flight organization, carving plaques for over | ||||||
18 | 1,200 veterans who participated in the flights, and he was | ||||||
19 | honored with a flight on June 16, 2022; and

20 | WHEREAS, Chuck McMullen was a skilled craftsman, building | ||||||
21 | his family home with his own hands, and a devoted fan of the |

1 | St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Bears; he loved animals | ||||||
2 | and spending time with his children and grandchildren; he | ||||||
3 | enjoyed visiting the local library, meticulously tending his | ||||||
4 | vegetable garden, and grilling unrivaled cheeseburgers on a | ||||||
5 | handmade brick grill; he was committed to his faith; after his | ||||||
6 | wife's passing, he embarked on a series of adventures, | ||||||
7 | fulfilling a bucket list of travel destinations across the | ||||||
8 | United States; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Chuck McMullen was a man of intelligence, | ||||||
10 | adventure, strength, and warmth who was known for his wise | ||||||
11 | counsel; he will be remembered for living his life with | ||||||
12 | purpose, love, and service; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Chuck McMullen was preceded in death by his wife | ||||||
14 | of 66 years, Shari; his mother; and his brother-in-law, | ||||||
15 | William Meyer; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Chuck McMullen is survived by his daughters, | ||||||
17 | Terri (Robert) Spegal and Laraine "Lori" (Arlin) Williams; his | ||||||
18 | grandchildren, Kristopher Spegal and Ashton Spegal; his | ||||||
19 | sister, Charlotte Meyer; and a host of nieces and nephews; | ||||||
20 | therefore, be it
