2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Christal Elaine Dagit of Pekin, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on September 5, 2019; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Christal Dagit was born in Peoria to Merle Robert | ||||||
6 | and Charlotte Elizabeth Kay (Allwardt) Miller on April 10, | ||||||
7 | 1943; she attended Illinois Central College, Midstate Business | ||||||
8 | College, Bradley University, and the National Genealogical | ||||||
9 | Society Continuing Education School; she married Russel Roy | ||||||
10 | Dagit in Peoria on September 4, 1966; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Christal Dagit worked as a licensed real estate | ||||||
12 | sales agent for many years, retiring in 2005; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Christal Dagit was a historical researcher and | ||||||
14 | consultant and was honored for her work with numerous | ||||||
15 | recognitions from Tazewell County and the State of Illinois; | ||||||
16 | she was the founding member and first president of the Tazewell | ||||||
17 | County Historic Places Society in 1997 and was the first | ||||||
18 | director of the Tazewell County Museum and Educational Center, | ||||||
19 | which officially opened in Pekin in 2003; she was president of | ||||||
20 | the French Heritage Corridor, president of the Historic Fagotte | ||||||
21 | Cemetery Association, a regional director with the Illinois War | ||||||
22 | of 1812 Bicentennial Commission, Tazewell County Commissioner |

1 | for the Abraham Lincoln Commission, and Tazewell County | ||||||
2 | Commissioner of the Illinois River Heritage Commission from | ||||||
3 | 2001 to 2004; she authored three books, two of which are in the | ||||||
4 | Library of Congress and have been donated to the Tazewell | ||||||
5 | County Genealogical & Historical Society; she also enjoyed | ||||||
6 | researching and writing the Dagit Family History; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Christal Dagit was a member and past president of | ||||||
8 | the Pekin Woman's Club and held memberships in the William | ||||||
9 | Schaefer American Legion Post 44 Ladies Auxiliary, the Peoria | ||||||
10 | Woman's Club, the Midwest Soarring Foundation, and the Red Hat | ||||||
11 | Society; she also served on the Save James Field Committee; she | ||||||
12 | was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Pekin and the | ||||||
13 | Bethlehem Society; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Christal Dagit enjoyed art, especially oil | ||||||
15 | painting, and won numerous ribbons for her artwork; in her | ||||||
16 | leisure, she also enjoyed embroidery, crocheting, and reading; | ||||||
17 | she loved traveling the United States, especially seeing the | ||||||
18 | western mountains and historic sites; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Christal Dagit was preceded in death by her | ||||||
20 | husband, Russel; her parents; her sisters, Marilyn Siepert and | ||||||
21 | Sally Spring; her brother, Daniel John Miller; and one niece; | ||||||
22 | and

1 | WHEREAS, Christal Dagit is survived by five nieces and | ||||||
2 | nephews; her stepsons, Roy (Debbie) and Everett (Sheila) Dagit; | ||||||
3 | her stepdaughter, Marnie Linda (Tommy) Lively; 11 | ||||||
4 | step-grandchildren; and 16 step-great-grandchildren; | ||||||
5 | therefore, be it

6 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
7 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
8 | Christal Elaine Dagit and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
9 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
10 | further

11 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
12 | presented to the family of Christal Dagit as an expression of | ||||||
13 | our deepest sympathy.
