1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Louis F. Cainkar of Evergreen Park, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on April 20, 2010; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Mr. Cainkar was born in 1911 in St. Louis, | ||||||
6 | Missouri, the youngest son of Slovene immigrants; he studied | ||||||
7 | law at DePaul University and graduated magna cum laude in 1937; | ||||||
8 | at DePaul he met Ruth Hendershott, who became his wife of more | ||||||
9 | than 60 years; after graduation, Mr. Cainkar joined a law firm, | ||||||
10 | where he handled insurance and personal injury cases, before | ||||||
11 | forming his own firm; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, He served in the Marine Corps during World War II, | ||||||
13 | achieving the rank of major; in November of 1943, he fought in | ||||||
14 | the Battle of Tarawa, an island in the Pacific Ocean, where | ||||||
15 | more than 3,000 Marines lost their lives; and

16 | WHEREAS, Mr. Cainkar founded his law firm in the newly | ||||||
17 | formed village of Evergreen Park in 1951; h became the village | ||||||
18 | attorney that year and began practicing municipal law; he | ||||||
19 | guided the village through the postwar population boom and the | ||||||
20 | development of one of the nation's first shopping malls, | ||||||
21 | Evergreen Plaza; and

1 | WHEREAS, Mr. Cainkar's firm, including two of his sons, | ||||||
2 | became one of the more prominent municipal law firms in the | ||||||
3 | Southland, representing suburbs such as Hickory Hills, Alsip, | ||||||
4 | and Oak Lawn as well as many park and library districts and | ||||||
5 | Moraine Valley Community College; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Louis Cainkar was the son of the Slovene National | ||||||
7 | Benefit Society President Vincent Cainkar and his wife, the | ||||||
8 | late Luisa; he was the beloved husband for nearly sixty years | ||||||
9 | of the late Ruth (Lawler Hendershot) and the loving father of | ||||||
10 | Vincent (Cathy), Joseph, James (Donna), Louise (Hassan | ||||||
11 | Mashrah), and Michael (Toni); the beloved grandfather of | ||||||
12 | Joseph, Brooke, Paul, Craig, Max, Carmen, Ryan, Anwar, and | ||||||
13 | Walid; the dear brother of Lillian Cainkar Zasadil, Vincent and | ||||||
14 | Leo Cainkar, and Robert Sannemann; and the fond uncle of Donald | ||||||
15 | Clarke and Judy Zasadil Nelson; therefore, be it

16 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | ||||||
17 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
18 | his family and friends, the passing of Louis Cainkar; and be it | ||||||
19 | further

20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
21 | presented to the family of Louis Cainkar as a symbol of our | ||||||
22 | sincere sympathy.
