SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Illinois supports the Great Seal of the United
3States of America that bears the inscription E Pluribus Unum,
4which translates from the Latin as "Out of many, one"; and
5 WHEREAS, The greatest asset of the State of Illinois is
6its people; and
7 WHEREAS, The State of Illinois is comprised of
8multicultural, multiethnic, and multi-racial residents; and
9 WHEREAS, A large number of Illinois residents, 39.8% or
10approximately 5,600,000 people, identify as Black, Hispanic,
11Asian American, or multi-racial; and
12 WHEREAS, Friendship, collegiality, civility, respect, and
13kindness are commonly shared ideals of the collective
14residents of the State of Illinois; and
15 WHEREAS, The Towards E Pluribus Unum Initiative of the
16National Center for Race Amity has invited communities across
17the United States of America to join in introspection and
18reflection on the beauty and richness of diverse peoples of
19this great nation while reaching out with a spirit of amity
20toward one another annually on the second Sunday in June,
