2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Maureen Therese Barnes of | ||||||
4 | Springfield, who passed away on January 20, 2024; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Maureen Barnes was born in Chicago to Mary | ||||||
6 | Catherine (Barron) and David Mahoney on December 20, 1954; her | ||||||
7 | family moved to Springfield at a young age, and she graduated | ||||||
8 | from Springfield High School; she married Troy Barnes at | ||||||
9 | Christ the King Church on September 6, 1974; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Maureen Barnes dedicated her professional life to | ||||||
11 | serving others in the medical field; she enrolled in night | ||||||
12 | school to get her nursing degree, and over the next three | ||||||
13 | decades, she created a highly impactful and respected nursing | ||||||
14 | career working in both private practice and surgery at | ||||||
15 | Memorial Health Systems; she was known as "Mother Moe" and | ||||||
16 | mentored many young nurses; and

17 | WHEREAS, Maureen Barnes had a unique and special | ||||||
18 | relationship with each of her grandchildren; one of her great | ||||||
19 | joys was bringing her grandchildren to summer vacations on | ||||||
20 | Lake Michigan; she felt that her times at Lake Michigan with | ||||||
21 | family and friends were some of the best memories she had ever | ||||||
22 | made; and

1 | WHEREAS, Maureen Barnes and her husband enjoyed traveling | ||||||
2 | around the country, and they looked forward to their winters | ||||||
3 | in Florida with their fellow snowbirds; she also kept up with | ||||||
4 | her sisterhood of nurses with cherished weekly and monthly | ||||||
5 | dinners and lunches; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Maureen Barnes was preceded in death by her | ||||||
7 | sister, Trish Milburn; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Maureen Barnes is survived by her husband of 49 | ||||||
9 | years, Troy Barnes; her children, Thomas (Stacy) Barnes, Sarah | ||||||
10 | (David) Byun, and Brian (Whitney) Barnes; her brothers, David | ||||||
11 | (Kathy) and Dennis (Cindy) Mahoney; her sister, Margaret | ||||||
12 | "Peggy" Mahoney; her sister-in-law, Diann (Gary) Glenn; her | ||||||
13 | grandchildren, Kylie, Owen, Arlo, Cassidy, August, Viona, and | ||||||
14 | Ruth; numerous close cousins, nieces, and nephews; and the | ||||||
15 | hundreds of friends she made such a huge part of her life; | ||||||
16 | therefore, be it

17 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
18 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
19 | Maureen Therese Barnes and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
20 | her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
