2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Richard Clarence "Dick" Puls of Des | ||||||
4 | Plaines, who passed away on December 26, 2023; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Dick Puls was born in Chicago to Clarence and | ||||||
6 | Gertrude (Cook) Puls on May 1, 1943; he attended Queen of All | ||||||
7 | Saints Elementary School in Chicago and Notre Dame High School | ||||||
8 | in Niles; he graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Loyola | ||||||
9 | University Chicago; he married Sylvia Madalinski in 1967; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Dick Puls taught science at St. Viator High | ||||||
11 | School; he then spent the rest of his professional career as a | ||||||
12 | senior level life insurance underwriter for a large firm in | ||||||
13 | Chicago; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Dick Puls was a longtime parishioner of St. | ||||||
15 | Zachary Parish in Des Plaines, where he served in many | ||||||
16 | ministries, including liturgy and finance planning, St. | ||||||
17 | Vincent DePaul, and RCIA; he also served on the St. Zachary | ||||||
18 | School Board, where all of his children and his grandson, Sam, | ||||||
19 | attended grade school; a faithful Catholic throughout his | ||||||
20 | life, he even selected the church altar as the spot for his | ||||||
21 | marriage proposal; and

1 | WHEREAS, Dick Puls enjoyed reading science fiction novels, | ||||||
2 | studying the stock market, playing cards, listening to | ||||||
3 | classical music, and napping with his dog, Duke; he loved | ||||||
4 | spoiling his grandchildren and treating them to trips to the | ||||||
5 | zoo, botanical gardens, arboretum, children's museum, and a | ||||||
6 | nice lunch, where they could choose anything off the menu; and

7 | WHEREAS, Dick Puls was preceded in death by his parents | ||||||
8 | and his wife, Sylvia; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Dick Puls was the loving father of Judy (Dave) | ||||||
10 | Manning, Rich Puls, Donna (Levent) Turetgen, and David (Beth) | ||||||
11 | Puls; the devoted grandfather "Papa" of Richie, Emma, Neyla, | ||||||
12 | Melisa, William, and Sam; the cherished cousin of Nancy | ||||||
13 | Pavlick; the dear brother-in-law of Susan (the late | ||||||
14 | Christopher) Puchalla; the loved uncle of Jenny, Julie, Chris, | ||||||
15 | and Dan; and the adored cousin, friend, colleague, and | ||||||
16 | neighbor of many; therefore, be it

17 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
18 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
19 | Richard Clarence "Dick" Puls and extend our sincere | ||||||
20 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
21 | him; and be it further
