2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Billy G. Goessman, who passed away on | ||||||
4 | November 8, 2013; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Billy Goessman was born on January 4, 1927 in Ina; | ||||||
6 | his parents were Gale and Pearl (nee Clinton) Goessman; he | ||||||
7 | married Lorene Quertermous on December 10, 1949 in Waukegan; | ||||||
8 | and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Billy Goessman was a graduate of East Alton Wood | ||||||
10 | River High School, where he played on the football team and | ||||||
11 | basketball team for Chick Summers; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, As a teenager, Billy Goessman worked after school | ||||||
13 | in his parents' grocery store in East Alton; as a young adult, | ||||||
14 | he built tanks at Amoco refinery before becoming a police | ||||||
15 | officer; in his retirement years, he served as a ranger at Belk | ||||||
16 | Park Golf Course; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Billy Goessman served his country as a member of | ||||||
18 | the United States Army's 93rd Bomb Squadron in the South | ||||||
19 | Pacific during World War II; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Billy Goessman served as an Illinois State Trooper |

1 | for 25 years, retiring at the rank of sergeant; he also used | ||||||
2 | his expertise to teach classes at the Illinois State Police | ||||||
3 | Headquarters and Belleville Area College Police Academy; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Billy Goessman was a lifetime member of the Wood | ||||||
5 | River Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2859 and a longtime member | ||||||
6 | of the Wood River Moose Lodge #1349; he was also a member of | ||||||
7 | the Fraternal Order of Police; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Billy Goessman enjoyed watching Illinois | ||||||
9 | basketball, reading, and spending time with his family and | ||||||
10 | friends; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Billy Goessman was preceded in death by his | ||||||
12 | parents and his brother, Jack Goessman; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Billy Goessman is survived by his wife, Lorene; | ||||||
14 | his daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Bob Maguire; his son | ||||||
15 | and daughter-in-law, Max and Marsha Goessman; his | ||||||
16 | grandchildren, Lauren Maguire and Lenon (Angie) Maguire; his | ||||||
17 | great-granddaughter, Darcy Maguire; and his sister, Joyce | ||||||
18 | Jones; therefore, be it

19 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
20 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his | ||||||
21 | family and friends, mourn the passing of Billy G. Goessman; and |

2 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
3 | presented to the family of Billy Goessman as an expression of | ||||||
4 | our sympathy.
