| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of Sister Marianna Kosior O.S.F. of the | ||||||
| 4 | Hospital Sisters of St. Francis, who passed away on December | ||||||
| 5 | 11, 2021; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Sister Marianna, the former Gloria Kosior, was | ||||||
| 7 | born to Albert and Anne Skrabala Kosior in Whiting, Indiana on | ||||||
| 8 | August 4, 1922; she entered the Congregation on September 8, | ||||||
| 9 | 1943 and professed her vows on June 13, 1946; she received a | ||||||
| 10 | Bachelor of Science Degree in Dietetics from Fontbonne College | ||||||
| 11 | in 1949 followed by an internship in Dietetics at St. Mary's | ||||||
| 12 | Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota; she earned a master's degree | ||||||
| 13 | in Administration from Notre Dame University in 1981; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Sister Marianna served as a dietitian at HSHS | ||||||
| 15 | hospitals in Illinois and Wisconsin early in her career; she | ||||||
| 16 | was the administrator of St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in | ||||||
| 17 | Effingham from 1962 to 1968 and served as administrator of St. | ||||||
| 18 | Mary's Hospital in Decatur from 1968 to 1969; she served the | ||||||
| 19 | Province as a provincial councilor and provincial superior | ||||||
| 20 | from 1969 to 1979; she founded Hospital Sisters Health System | ||||||
| 21 | in 1978 and served as executive vice president from 1979 to | ||||||
| 22 | 1980 when she assumed the role of president until 1989; she was | ||||||
| 23 | also the convent librarian for many years and retired from | ||||||

| 1 | active ministry in 2016; and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Sister Mariana was preceded in death by her | ||||||
| 3 | parents; her brother, James Kosior; and her two sisters, | ||||||
| 4 | Loraine Duray and Rose Marie Koopman; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Sister Marianna is survived by her brother, | ||||||
| 6 | Albert Kosior; her niece and nephew; and her Franciscan | ||||||
| 7 | Sisters with whom she shared her life for over 77 years; | ||||||
| 8 | therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 9 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
| 10 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
| ||||||
| 11 | Sister Marianna Kosior O.S.F. and extend our sincere
| ||||||
| 12 | condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
| ||||||
| 13 | her; and be it further
| ||||||
| 14 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
| ||||||
| 15 | presented to the family of Sister Marianna as an expression of
| ||||||
| 16 | our deepest sympathy.
