2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Reverend Dr. Clifford Tyler, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on November 19, 2023; and

5 | WHEREAS, Rev. Tyler served as a staff sergeant with the | ||||||
6 | U.S. Army during World War II from June 3, 1943 to February 19, | ||||||
7 | 1946 and received an Honorable Discharge; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Rev. Tyler was pastor emeritus of First Timothy | ||||||
9 | Missionary Baptist Church; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Rev. Tyler served as the pastor of First Timothy | ||||||
11 | Missionary Baptist Church for 45 years; over the years, he | ||||||
12 | also served as president of the Baptist Minister's Union, | ||||||
13 | president of the Progressive Baptist District Association of | ||||||
14 | Illinois, president of the Progressive Baptist State | ||||||
15 | Convention of Illinois, chairman of the board of the Chicago | ||||||
16 | Baptist Institute, and president of the Chicago Baptist | ||||||
17 | Institute; and

18 | WHEREAS, Rev. Tyler enjoyed preaching, fishing, hunting, | ||||||
19 | baking, cooking, gardening, Bible study, bowling, road trips, | ||||||
20 | and gadgets; and

1 | WHEREAS, Rev. Tyler is father to Sheila Tyler Smith; | ||||||
2 | therefore, be it

3 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
4 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
5 | Reverend Dr. Clifford Tyler and extend our sincere condolences | ||||||
6 | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | ||||||
