SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of Stanley Emmett Furlong of Rock Island,
who passed away on July 5, 2019; and
WHEREAS, Stanley Furlong was born in Moline to James J. and
Margaret (McFadden) Furlong on November 2, 1949; he attended
schools in Moline and graduated from Alleman High School;
following high school, he joined the United States Navy, where
he served in Hawaii for three years and as a Medical Corpsman
on a ship off the coat of Vietnam for one year; and
WHEREAS, Stanley Furlong worked at Oscar Mayer Company for
20 years; he retired from Augustana College, where he worked as
a printer; and
WHEREAS, Stanley Furlong was a member of the Mississippi
Valley Blues Society, where he also served on the board, for 25
years; he enjoyed photography, discovering new craft beers at
local breweries, and attending live blues events; he was
devoted to his four rescue cats; and
WHEREAS, Stanley Furlong was preceded in death by his
parents; his brother, Steve; and his sister, Marjorie; and

WHEREAS, Stanley Furlong is survived by his sister-in-law,
Betsy Furlong, and her children, Brian, Katie, and Erin; his
niece, Roxanne; his aunt, Jean Souchek; and many cousins;
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
Stanley Emmett Furlong and extend our sincere condolences to
his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Stanley Furlong as an expression of
our deepest sympathy.
