2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Melvin Anton Hisey, formerly of Cuba, | ||||||
4 | who passed away on October 2, 2023; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Melvin Hisey was born in Chatfield, Minnesota to | ||||||
6 | John and Evelyn (Wondrasch) Hisey on June 10, 1936; he | ||||||
7 | attended Chatfield High School; he served in the U.S. Army | ||||||
8 | during the Korean War; he married Dora Slater in Chatfield on | ||||||
9 | June 8, 1957; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Melvin Hisey owned Hisey and Sons Construction in | ||||||
11 | Lewistown, and he was a natural woodworking craftsman, | ||||||
12 | building furniture and homes; after moving to Arizona, he | ||||||
13 | continued to advance in his career as a superintendent and | ||||||
14 | project manager for commercial construction companies; and

15 | WHEREAS, Melvin Hisey was affectionately known as "Hot | ||||||
16 | Dog" later in life as it was his most often used phrase; his | ||||||
17 | faith was important to him; one of the highlights of his later | ||||||
18 | years was traveling to Washington, DC with other veterans to | ||||||
19 | visit the memorials with the Greater Peoria Honor Flight; he | ||||||
20 | and Dora lived life to the fullest and traveled across the | ||||||
21 | country in their motorhome and on many bus trips; he was very | ||||||
22 | proud of his family and loved them dearly; and

1 | WHEREAS, Melvin Hisey was preceded in death by his wife of | ||||||
2 | 63 years, Dora; his grandson, Christopher Flatt; and his | ||||||
3 | sisters, Marjorie Dorholt and Mildred Moe; and

4 | WHEREAS, Melvin Hisey is survived by his children, Brenda | ||||||
5 | (Dennis) Derry, Mel (Juli) Hisey, Bill (Wendy) Hisey, Darlene | ||||||
6 | (Michael) Davidson, Cheryl Lockard (John Hardy), Mary (Mark) | ||||||
7 | Wepprecht, and Tim (Peggy) Hisey; 11 grandchildren; 11 | ||||||
8 | great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; his sisters, | ||||||
9 | Millie Hisey, Marie Ragland, Marilyn Baker, and Mavis (Gerald) | ||||||
10 | Williams; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John Slater, | ||||||
11 | James Cantrall, Paula Julien, Sandra Slater, and Dixie | ||||||
12 | (George) Bruketta; and many nieces, nephews, and friends; | ||||||

15 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
16 | Melvin Anton Hisey and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
