SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
to learn of the death of Melvin Anton Hisey, formerly of Cuba,
who passed away on October 2, 2023; and
WHEREAS, Melvin Hisey was born in Chatfield, Minnesota to
John and Evelyn (Wondrasch) Hisey on June 10, 1936; he
attended Chatfield High School; he served in the U.S. Army
during the Korean War; he married Dora Slater in Chatfield on
June 8, 1957; and
WHEREAS, Melvin Hisey owned Hisey and Sons Construction in
Lewistown, and he was a natural woodworking craftsman,
building furniture and homes; after moving to Arizona, he
continued to advance in his career as a superintendent and
project manager for commercial construction companies; and
WHEREAS, Melvin Hisey was affectionately known as "Hot
Dog" later in life as it was his most often used phrase; his
faith was important to him; one of the highlights of his later
years was traveling to Washington, DC with other veterans to
visit the memorials with the Greater Peoria Honor Flight; he
and Dora lived life to the fullest and traveled across the
country in their motorhome and on many bus trips; he was very
proud of his family and loved them dearly; and

WHEREAS, Melvin Hisey was preceded in death by his wife of
63 years, Dora; his grandson, Christopher Flatt; and his
sisters, Marjorie Dorholt and Mildred Moe; and
WHEREAS, Melvin Hisey is survived by his children, Brenda
(Dennis) Derry, Mel (Juli) Hisey, Bill (Wendy) Hisey, Darlene
(Michael) Davidson, Cheryl Lockard (John Hardy), Mary (Mark)
Wepprecht, and Tim (Peggy) Hisey; 11 grandchildren; 11
great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; his sisters,
Millie Hisey, Marie Ragland, Marilyn Baker, and Mavis (Gerald)
Williams; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John Slater,
James Cantrall, Paula Julien, Sandra Slater, and Dixie
(George) Bruketta; and many nieces, nephews, and friends;
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
Melvin Anton Hisey and extend our sincere condolences to his
family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
further
