2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Ivan Claudio Gonzalez of Chicago, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on June 14, 2022, and wish to remember him on the | ||||||
5 | anniversary of his birth, May 10; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Ivan Gonzalez was born to Mario Gonzalez and Rosa | ||||||
7 | Gonzalez on May 10, 1982; he was the proud child of immigrants | ||||||
8 | who instilled in him a sense of responsibility to help uplift | ||||||
9 | his community; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, At the age of 22, Ivan Gonzalez began to organize | ||||||
11 | and advocate for progressive change in the Latino community | ||||||
12 | and all communities in Illinois; as a champion for | ||||||
13 | working-class people, he helped pass legislation in the | ||||||
14 | General Assembly to better the lives of immigrants through | ||||||
15 | public schools, labor, and affordable housing; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Ivan Gonzalez served as chief of staff to State | ||||||
17 | Senator Omar Aquino since 2016; during his tenure, he managed | ||||||
18 | day-to-day operations of the senate district office, | ||||||
19 | legislative agenda, and community relations and became an | ||||||
20 | influential advocate for the Latino community; and

21 | WHEREAS, Ivan Gonzalez was one of the most iconic and |

| |||||||
1 | beloved policy and political consultants in the State of | ||||||
2 | Illinois, paving the way for many in politics today, including | ||||||
3 | people in City Hall, Cook County, and recently in Congress | ||||||
4 | with the historic election of Delia Ramirez to the U.S. House | ||||||
5 | of Representatives; he served as a senior advisor to then | ||||||
6 | State Representative Ramirez until his passing, which occurred | ||||||
7 | two weeks before her and Senator Aquino's election to the | ||||||
8 | State Central Committee; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Ivan Gonzalez was known for his kindness, | ||||||
10 | generosity, and infectious laugh, having a positive impact on | ||||||
11 | the lives of many who crossed his path; through his huge, | ||||||
12 | joyous smile, he brought together both friends and rivals to | ||||||
13 | remind us that we can always forgive and that there is always | ||||||
14 | an opportunity to forget about the past and start over; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Ivan Gonzalez was a true giant in the | ||||||
16 | ever-growing and evolving progressive movement, and his | ||||||
17 | influence on politics in the State of Illinois will not be | ||||||
18 | forgotten; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Ivan Gonzalez is survived by his parents; his | ||||||
20 | sister, Vanessa; his brother-in-law, John Velez; and his | ||||||
21 | nieces, Liliana and Daniela Velez; therefore, be it
| ||||||
22 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL |

2 | Ivan Claudio Gonzalez and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
3 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
