2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of John Pickett, who passed away on March | ||||||
4 | 24, 2023; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, John Pickett was born to Johnny and Alberta | ||||||
6 | Pickett in Meadville, Mississippi on June 20, 1953; he moved | ||||||
7 | to Chicago with his family as a child; his formative education | ||||||
8 | began in Chicago Public Schools, and he graduated from Chicago | ||||||
9 | Vocational High School (CVS); he attended Illinois Medical | ||||||
10 | Institute, where he earned his certification in EKG and | ||||||
11 | phlebotomy; he married Annie Marie on December 30, 1973, and | ||||||
12 | their union produced three daughters; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, John Pickett held several positions while | ||||||
14 | employed at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center, known | ||||||
15 | today as Rush University Medical Center, including phlebotomy | ||||||
16 | technician, manager of the Infectious Diseases Department, and | ||||||
17 | customer care coordinator in Client Services; he was a | ||||||
18 | dedicated employee for 41 years, retiring in the spring of | ||||||
19 | 2017; and

20 | WHEREAS, John Pickett committed to his faith at a young | ||||||
21 | age; he was a devoted member of Greater Harvest Missionary | ||||||
22 | Baptist Church, where he was known as "Uncle John" to many; he |

1 | served as a Cub Scout troop leader, a special events | ||||||
2 | coordinator, a Pastor Aide member, and a Radio Choir member | ||||||
3 | for over 30 years; he faithfully served as a deacon and as an | ||||||
4 | elder; he often assisted elderly members, offering to help to | ||||||
5 | them in any way he could, often checking on them by phone, | ||||||
6 | taking them to run errands, or picking up groceries they | ||||||
7 | needed; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, John Pickett was a hardworking family man, a | ||||||
9 | faithful and devoted husband, and a fun-loving person who | ||||||
10 | cherished his family; a doting grandfather, he was | ||||||
11 | affectionately known as "Pa-Pa" to his grandchildren; he was | ||||||
12 | an avid Bible reader and often quoted scripture; he loved | ||||||
13 | listening to gospel music and singing; he often planned | ||||||
14 | elaborate outings and enjoyed trying new restaurants; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, John Pickett will be remembered for his exuberant | ||||||
16 | presence, his thoughtful heart, and his witty, humorous, and | ||||||
17 | sarcastic statements; his life was a testament to his love of | ||||||
18 | his family and of service; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Although John Pickett was born into the Pickett | ||||||
20 | family, he was further loved and supported by his godmother, | ||||||
21 | the late Masora Shelley, and three families who loved him like | ||||||
22 | he was their own, Mother Alice Thomas (the late Eddie), | ||||||
23 | Darryl, Denise, Sherise, Matthew, Tawana, Randall, and |

1 | Paulette, the late Deacon Hezekiah Brown and the late Mother | ||||||
2 | Ida Brown, Vickie, Hezekiah Jr., Anthony, Kimberly, Michelle, | ||||||

5 | WHEREAS, John Pickett was preceded in death by his parents | ||||||
6 | and his siblings, Johnny Pickett Jr., Dorothy Ersery, and | ||||||
7 | Robert Middleton; and

8 | WHEREAS, John Pickett is survived by his wife of 49 years, | ||||||
9 | Annie Marie; his daughters, Shanese Marie, Antoinette Jameica, | ||||||
10 | and LaNesha DaNette; his honorary son, Curtis; his | ||||||
11 | grandchildren, Anisa Saneah, Ayana Saria, and Asiah Savon; his | ||||||
12 | sister, Darcinni; his sister-in-law, Carolyn Morris; his | ||||||
13 | brother-in-law, Steven (Donna) Motley; his nieces, Lynette | ||||||
14 | (Aaron), Carolyn, Markieta (Lance), Latonya, Kenyatta | ||||||
15 | (Ronald), Shanell, Cassandra, and Nicole; his nephews, Andre | ||||||

5 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
6 | John Pickett and extend our sincere condolences to his family, | ||||||
7 | friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

8 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
9 | presented to the family of John Pickett as an expression of our | ||||||
10 | deepest sympathy.
