1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Raymond P. Pieroni of McHenry, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on April 6, 2013; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Raymond Pieroni was born on June 17, 1923, in | ||||||
6 | Chicago; his parents were Ernesto and Teresa Pieroni; he | ||||||
7 | married Mabel D. Pioli on January 13, 1951; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Raymond Pieroni served his country as a member of | ||||||
9 | the United States Navy during World War II; he served in the | ||||||
10 | western Pacific as a gunner's mate aboard the USS Maddox and | ||||||
11 | was severely injured when the Maddox was struck by a kamikaze | ||||||
12 | aircraft on January 21, 1945; he received the World War II | ||||||
13 | Victory Medal and a Purple Heart for his service; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, While living in Chicago, Raymond Pieroni spent his | ||||||
15 | summers in McHenry for many years before moving to McHenry with | ||||||
16 | his family in 1949; he and his family founded and operated the | ||||||
17 | original Bimbo's restaurant since 1949; after flourishing as a | ||||||
18 | popular restaurant in McHenry for many years, the family | ||||||
19 | operation was sold in 1988; and

20 | WHEREAS, Raymond Pieroni enjoyed many Navy reunions | ||||||
21 | throughout the years and was a member of the American Legion |

1 | Post 491 and VFW Post 4600 in McHenry; he was also a member of | ||||||
2 | St. Patrick Catholic Church in McHenry, Moose Lodge 691 in | ||||||
3 | McHenry, and Woodstock Elk Lodge 1143; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Raymond Pieroni and his wife received recognition | ||||||
5 | by a national company and local publications for their | ||||||
6 | Christmas decorations and design and for promoting family | ||||||
7 | traditions during the holidays; he was a gifted handyman and | ||||||
8 | enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his loving family; | ||||||
9 | and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Raymond Pieroni was preceded in death by his | ||||||
11 | parents; his wife, Mabel; and his brother, Ernest "Jr."; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Raymond Pieroni is survived by his children, Renee | ||||||
13 | (Michael) Carberry, Denise Pieroni, and Raymond (Nancy) | ||||||
14 | Pieroni; his grandchildren, Brian Carberry, Derek Pack, Daniel | ||||||
15 | Carberry, Kevin Pack, Elizabeth Pieroni, Caitlin Pieroni, and | ||||||
16 | Michaela Pieroni; his brother, Edward; his sister, Diana | ||||||
17 | (Chuck) Tonyan; and his sister-in-law, Julie; therefore, be it
| ||||||
18 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
19 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
20 | his family and friends, the passing of Raymond P. Pieroni; and | ||||||
21 | be it further
