2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Donald J. Newberg of Bloomington, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on February 7, 2017; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Donald Newberg was born in Galesburg to Ralph H. | ||||||
6 | and Relda B. Newberg on June 19, 1932; he married Carolyn J. | ||||||
7 | Wooldridge in 1951; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Donald Newberg began his broadcasting career at | ||||||
9 | age 21 in Macomb; in 1957, he moved to Bloomington | ||||||
10 | Broadcasting; while at WJBC, he was an on-air personality, | ||||||
11 | concentrating on news and sports and for many years, hosting a | ||||||
12 | program called, "Problems and Solutions"; in 1974, he moved to | ||||||
13 | Evansville, Indiana to manage the first of what became many | ||||||
14 | radio station acquisitions outside Bloomington; in 1978, he | ||||||
15 | moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee to manage another acquisition; | ||||||
16 | and

17 | WHEREAS, Donald Newberg was very active in every community | ||||||
18 | in which he lived; he was elected a member of the District 87 | ||||||
19 | Board of Education; he served on the board of the Illinois | ||||||
20 | Prairie Community Foundation, and with the Rotary Club, | ||||||
21 | Illinois Wesleyan University Associates, and many other causes | ||||||
22 | and organizations; he was President of the Illinois News |

1 | Broadcasters Association, served on the board of the National | ||||||
2 | Association of Broadcasters, and was President of the Tennessee | ||||||
3 | Association of Broadcasters; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Donald Newberg inherited a lifelong love of golf | ||||||
5 | from his mother; he was the media Chairman of the PGA Provident | ||||||
6 | Classic in Chattanooga for many years and had three | ||||||
7 | holes-in-one; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, 49 years ago, Donald Newberg took his then-young | ||||||
9 | family for the first time to the white sand beaches of the Gulf | ||||||
10 | of Mexico near Pensacola, Florida; this trip became a yearly | ||||||
11 | family vacation; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Donald Newberg is survived by his wife, Carolyn; | ||||||
13 | his children, Deb (Steve) Wannemacher, David (Joni) Newberg, | ||||||
14 | and Mary Jo (Bruce) Campbell; his grandchildren, Suzy (Chris) | ||||||
15 | Brown, Andrew (Jill) Newberg, Allison (Matt) Hannam, Sarah | ||||||
16 | Wannemacher, and Alexa Campbell; and his great-grandchildren, | ||||||
17 | Joe Amiano, Jack Amiano, Morgan Brown, Luke Brown, Brady Brown, | ||||||
18 | Kate Hannam, Lauren Hannam, Logan Newberg, Evan Newberg, and | ||||||
19 | Hunter Steele-Wannemacher; therefore, be it

20 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
21 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
22 | Donald J. Newberg, and extend our sincere condolences to his |

1 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
