| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of William "Maine" Henry Chillis Jr., who | ||||||
4 | passed away on March 2, 2021; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Maine Chillis was born to William Henry Chillis | ||||||
6 | Sr. and Sadie Price Chillis in Utica, Mississippi on January | ||||||
7 | 24, 1944; he was the first child of eight in his family and the | ||||||
8 | grandson of Jasper and Emma Neal Price; he committed to his | ||||||
9 | faith at an early age and later became a member of Kindling | ||||||
10 | Star M.B. Church in Greenville, Mississippi; during his early | ||||||
11 | education, he attended Greenville Public Schools, where he | ||||||
12 | played football; he married Bessie Mae White in Chicago in | ||||||
13 | 1967; he attended Coyne College where he became certified in | ||||||
14 | the maintenance and repair of appliances; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, After finishing high school, Maine Chillis | ||||||
16 | immediately entered the workforce by serving as head cook at | ||||||
17 | the Greenville Air Force Base; after receiving his | ||||||
18 | certification, he was employed with the Hutcherson Company, | ||||||
19 | where he worked various jobs; he later became the co-owner of | ||||||
20 | Harrison Bros. Appliances; and

21 | WHEREAS, Maine Chillis will be remembered as a kind man | ||||||
22 | and a great cook; after having spent a great deal of time as a |

1 | child watching his parents cook, he enjoyed cooking and was | ||||||
2 | often the family advisor for instruction on cooking various | ||||||
3 | dishes; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Maine Chillis was preceded in death by his | ||||||
5 | parents and his beloved Bessie Mae; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Maine Chillis is survived by his children, Bobby | ||||||
7 | White Jr., David (Linda) White Jr., Wanda Brandt, Efrem | ||||||
8 | (Lorraine) Chillis, Chantella (Byron) Chillis-Jackson, Tiffany | ||||||
9 | Rodrigues, Rashida Greenwood, and Tanisha Smith; his godson, | ||||||
10 | Andre Harris; his 26 grandchildren; his 23 | ||||||
11 | great-grandchildren; his four brothers, James Chillis Sr., | ||||||
12 | Frank Chillis, Jerry Chillis Sr., and Freddie (Brenda) Chillis | ||||||
13 | Sr.; his three sisters, Hannah Chillis, Henrietta Edwards, and | ||||||
14 | Gloria Shanklin; his aunt, Carrie Taylor; his two uncles, Rev. | ||||||
15 | Simon Price and James Flaggs Sr.; and a host of nieces and | ||||||
16 | nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it

17 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
18 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
19 | William "Maine" Henry Chillis Jr. and extend our sincere | ||||||
20 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
21 | him; and be it further

22 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
