SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Lemont Police Commander Donald J. Jones,
4 who passed away on January 2, 2009; and
5 WHEREAS, He was born in Chicago on June 29, 1953; he
6 graduated from Lyons Township High School; he had an
7 undergraduate degree in law enforcement; and in 1994, he
8 graduated from a staff and command program at Northwestern
9 University's Center for Public Safety; and
10 WHEREAS, He was behind the first national accreditation for
11 the Lemont Police Department in 2003 and was working towards
12 the re-accreditation of the department; and
13 WHEREAS, He was a 30 year member of the Lemont Police
14 Department and was commander in charge of investigations and
15 the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies
16 (CALEA) program; he was a past president of the Illinois Police
17 Accreditation Coalition; and
18 WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles
19 and Annette Jones; and
20 WHEREAS, He is survived by his wife, Paula (nee, Bachorz)

1 Jones; his stepson, Thad (Nicole) Mezyk; his grandchildren,
2 Sarah, Krystal, and "Baby" Mezyk; and his siblings, Margaret,
3 Kenneth, and Teresa; therefore, be it
4 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
5 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
6 his family, friends, and colleagues, the passing of Lemont
7 Police Commander Donald J. Jones; and be it further
8 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9 presented to the family of Donald J. Jones as a symbol of our
10 sincere sympathy.
