2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of John "Jack" Bowles, III, who passed away | ||||||
4 | on January 29, 2015; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, John Bowles, III was born in Chicago on October 8, | ||||||
6 | 1927; he graduated from high school in Highland Park and served | ||||||
7 | in the United States Naval Air Force during World War II aboard | ||||||
8 | the USS Menard; after the war, he attended Illinois Wesleyan | ||||||
9 | University and graduated in 1951; he married Ann Capen on | ||||||
10 | December 1, 1951; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, John Bowles, III worked for Kaiser Aluminum in | ||||||
12 | Ohio for a time, before moving back to Bloomington and joining | ||||||
13 | his father-in-law in the insurance business; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, John Bowles, III married Patsy Henderson on | ||||||
15 | November 18, 1981; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, John Bowles, III enjoyed golfing, hunting, | ||||||
17 | fishing, camping, traveling, and following the Green Bay | ||||||
18 | Packers; he was an officer and director of the Chicago District | ||||||
19 | Golf Association and officiated at many golf tournaments; he | ||||||
20 | was also a course rater for Golf Digest for 25 years and was a | ||||||
21 | member of the Bloomington Country Club and Bob O' Link Golf |

1 | Club; he authored a textbook on golf rules called "The Rules | ||||||
2 | Caddie" to assist coaches when teaching players the rules of | ||||||
3 | golf, which numerous high school coaches around the country are | ||||||
4 | using today; and

5 | WHEREAS, John Bowles, III served on many local boards and | ||||||
6 | was involved in numerous organizations, including Victory | ||||||
7 | Hall, the Children's Foundation, the McLean County Historical | ||||||
8 | Society (emeritus), National City Bank Director, the Young | ||||||
9 | Men's Club, the Knights of Columbus, the Pratt Music | ||||||
10 | Foundation, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Illinois State | ||||||
11 | Insurance Association; he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta | ||||||
12 | Fraternity and a risk manager for his national fraternity; he | ||||||
13 | was also a longtime member of the historic St. Patrick's Church | ||||||
14 | and Holy Trinity Church; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, John Bowles, III was preceded in death by his | ||||||
16 | parents; his first wife, Ann; his brother, Jim; and his | ||||||
17 | granddaughter, Kelsey Seyller; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, John Bowles, III is survived by his wife, Patsy; | ||||||
19 | his 6 daughters, Cindy (Stephen) Shaffer, Mary Beth Lewis, | ||||||
20 | Vicki (Mark) Seyller, Kim Bowles, Nancy Bowles, and Tina | ||||||
21 | Buckley Cox; his son, Tyler (Angie) Buckley; his 11 | ||||||
22 | grandchildren; his 13 great-grandchildren; his brother, Father | ||||||
23 | Bill Bowles; and many cousins, nephews, and nieces; therefore, |

2 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
3 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
4 | John "Jack" Bowles, III, and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
5 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
6 | further
| ||||||
7 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
8 | presented to the family of John Bowles, III as an expression of | ||||||
9 | our deepest sympathy.
