SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Charlotte Maris Wax of Newman, who
4passed away on December 18, 2022 at the age of 103; and
5 WHEREAS, Charlotte Wax was born in Tuscola on February 27,
61919 and graduated from the University of Illinois; and
7 WHEREAS, Along with work on the family farm in Newman
8raising corn, soybeans, Duroc hogs, and Shorthorn cattle,
9Charlotte Wax taught business at the high school in Tuscola;
10and
11 WHEREAS, Charlotte Wax was a lifelong member of the Newman
12Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher
13and Methodist Woman member; she was active in the Newman
14Woman's Club, serving as a 50-year member; she was still a
15devoted 49-year member of the Stephen A. Douglas Chapter of
16the Daughters of the American Revolution, where she had served
17as Regent and Honorary Regent; she was a long time 4-H leader
18with the Newman Kum-Joy-Nus 4-H Club, and she started the
19Buttons n Bows Home Economics Club for sewing and food
20projects; she also chaperoned the dorms for many years at the
21Illinois State Fair; and

1 WHEREAS, Charlotte Wax was the Illinois Future Homemakers
2of America Chapter Mother in 1969 and was selected as
3Illinoisan of the Day at the Illinois State Fair in 2018; and
4 WHEREAS, Charlotte Wax enjoyed genealogy, reading, playing
5euchre, watching Illini sports, and spoiling her ten
6grandchildren and 25 plus great-grandchildren; and
7 WHEREAS, Charlotte Wax was preceded in death by her
8husband of 43 years, Ray Wax, and her parents, Ward and Zala
9Maris; and
10 WHEREAS, Charlotte Wax is survived by her sons, Wallace
11(Becky) and Richard (Carol); her daughter, Martha (Robert);
12her grandchildren, Deborah Holifield, Kimberly Rund, Michael
13Wax, Andrea Gallagher, Katharine Sherman, David Wax, Andrew
14Wax, Kristina Milburn, Roberta Lower, and Scott Burris; and
15her great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
16 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Charlotte Maris Wax and extend our sincere condolences to her
19family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
20further
21 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
