2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Judy Tucker, who passed away on January | ||||||
4 | 21, 2013; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Judy Tucker was born on September 1, 1943, in | ||||||
6 | Cincinnati, Ohio; in 1955, she and her family moved to Markham, | ||||||
7 | where she was raised and completed her formal education; after | ||||||
8 | traveling throughout the country as a military wife with her | ||||||
9 | former spouse and 5 children, she remarried and moved her | ||||||
10 | family to Chicago in 1972; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Judy Tucker attended Victor Business School in | ||||||
12 | Evergreen Park in 1971; after graduation, she became affiliated | ||||||
13 | with the WIN Program (Work Initiative Program), where she | ||||||
14 | acquired employment as an intern with United States | ||||||
15 | Representative Ralph Metcalfe Sr.; after the WIN internship, | ||||||
16 | she served as the Executive Secretary to Committeeman Metcalfe | ||||||
17 | Sr. in the 3rd Ward Regular Democratic Organization from 1972 | ||||||
18 | to 1975; she also served as the Congressional Aide to | ||||||
19 | Congressman Metcalfe from 1976 until his death in October of | ||||||
20 | 1978; and

21 | WHEREAS, Continuing her career in government, Judy Tucker | ||||||
22 | served as the Executive Secretary/Office Manager to Ralph |

1 | Metcalfe Jr., Candidate for Alderman of the 3rd Ward Regular | ||||||
2 | Democratic Organization, from 1978 to 1980; from 1980 to 1982, | ||||||
3 | she worked for Rachel R. Ridley, the Director of the City of | ||||||
4 | Chicago Commission on Human Relations; she later worked for | ||||||
5 | Alderman Tyrone Kenner as the Secretary of Public Utilities | ||||||
6 | from 1982 to 1983 and as the Secretary of the Committee on | ||||||
7 | Finance from 1983 to 1985; and

8 | WHEREAS, On the recommendation of then-Alderman Bobby | ||||||
9 | Rush, Judy Tucker was recommended for the position of Office | ||||||
10 | Manager to Commissioner Jerry Butler during Butler's | ||||||
11 | successfully candidacy for Cook County Commissioner from 1985 | ||||||
12 | to 1986; in 1986, Alderman Rush extended an offer to her to | ||||||
13 | serve as his Executive Secretary in the 2nd Ward Regular | ||||||
14 | Democratic Organization; since his elevation to Honorable U.S. | ||||||
15 | Congressman of the First Congressional District in 1992, Judy | ||||||
16 | has held several key positions under Congressman Bobby Rush's | ||||||
17 | tutelage, most notably as the Director of Constituent Services, | ||||||
18 | where she served until her passing; as Director of Constituent | ||||||
19 | Services, she successfully developed valuable working | ||||||
20 | relationships with many constituents both on the governmental | ||||||
21 | and non-governmental levels; and

22 | WHEREAS, Judy Tucker was a faithful member of Miracle House | ||||||
23 | of Prayer Church in Chicago; and

1 | WHEREAS, Judy Tucker is survived by her loving husband of | ||||||
2 | 38 years, Elisheous Tucker, and her 5 children; therefore, be | ||||||
3 | it
| ||||||
4 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
5 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
6 | her family and friends, the passing of Judy Tucker; and be it | ||||||
7 | further
| ||||||
8 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
9 | presented to the family of Judy Tucker as an expression of our | ||||||
10 | sympathy.
