| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Lamar Bates of Calumet City, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on October 26, 2018; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Lamar Bates was born in Chicago to Lamar Quincy | ||||||
6 | Bates and Lillian Daniels Harris on April 19,
1940; he
| ||||||
7 | graduated from the Chicago Public School System, where he was | ||||||
8 | an
outstanding basketball player, and enlisted in the United | ||||||
9 | States Air
Force; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Lamar Bates was a faithful employee of the Chicago
| ||||||
11 | Transit Authority and retired as a dedicated bus supervisor; he | ||||||
12 | was an active member
of his union both during his working years | ||||||
13 | and in retirement; he was active in the political realm as | ||||||
14 | well; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Lamar Bates's humanitarian efforts and services | ||||||
16 | will be
missed; he gave back to his community by coaching his | ||||||
17 | grandsons in the
Roseland Little League, being a mentor to Obed | ||||||
18 | E. Vanderburg Council #13
Junior Craft, and coaching one of his | ||||||
19 | son's basketball teams; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Lamar Bates was an active member of Prince Hall's | ||||||
21 | Fidelity Lodge
#103 and was always available to his brothers; |

1 | he was a father figure to many
young men; he was a devout | ||||||
2 | Catholic and member of St.
Andrews the Apostle Church; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Lamar Bates was preceded in death by his son, | ||||||
4 | Lamar
Bates Jr., and his brother, Walter Bates; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Lamar Bates is survived by his wife, Callie Bates; | ||||||
6 | his sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Barbara Bates, | ||||||
7 | Christopher and
Lisa Bates, and Elmore Carthans; his daughters | ||||||
8 | and sons-in-law, Deirdre Bates, Angele Bates
and David, Lamaria | ||||||
9 | Bates Morris and David, Margarite Bates, Annette
Carthans, | ||||||
10 | Patricia Carthans, and Madonna Carthans; his sister, Janet
| ||||||
11 | Rowland; and many cherished grandchildren, | ||||||
12 | great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, | ||||||
13 | nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
| ||||||
14 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
15 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
16 | his family and friends,
the death of Lamar Bates and wish his | ||||||
17 | family and friends comfort in this
time of loss; and be it | ||||||
18 | further

19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
20 | presented to the
family of Lamar Bates as an expression of our | ||||||
21 | deepest sympathy.
