| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Mary Lou Duesterhaus of Quincy, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on December 31, 2010; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, She was born on May 11, 1929, near Kinderhook, the | ||||||
6 | daughter of Lewis and Alice Weddington Kenady; she married | ||||||
7 | Donald M. Duesterhaus on October 18, 1952, in St. John the | ||||||
8 | Baptist Catholic Church in Quincy; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, She grew up as the third youngest of 11 children | ||||||
10 | on a small farm north of Kinderhook during the Great Depression | ||||||
11 | and World War II; she referred to herself as a "farm girl"; her | ||||||
12 | family moved to Loraine after the war and she graduated from | ||||||
13 | Mendon High School in 1947; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, After working as a full-time homemaker and raising | ||||||
15 | 10 children, she embarked on a second career as a driver's | ||||||
16 | license examiner for the Illinois Secretary of State; she was a | ||||||
17 | lifetime member of the Women's Democratic Club; she served as | ||||||
18 | an election judge and a Democratic precinct committeeman for | ||||||
19 | many years; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, She and her husband, a former Quincy alderman and | ||||||
21 | deputy mayor, were named Grass Roots Activists of the Year by |

| |||||||
1 | the Adams County Democratic Central Committee in recognition of | ||||||
2 | their work for the local Democratic Party; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Following her retirement in 1994, she devoted most | ||||||
4 | of her time to three great passions: baking, gardening, and her | ||||||
5 | grandchildren; she was a longtime member of St. Francis | ||||||
6 | Catholic Church; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husband; her | ||||||
8 | parents; her brothers, Lewis "Junior" Kenady and Robert Kenady; | ||||||
9 | and her sisters, Louise Earnst, Rosella Morley, Wilma Kuhlman, | ||||||
10 | Bethany Banowitz, Josephine Miller, and Jeanne Jackson; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Mary Lou Duesterhaus is survived by her children, | ||||||
12 | Joseph A. Duesterhaus and his wife, Laura, D. Mark Duesterhaus | ||||||
13 | and his wife, Denise, Steven K. Duesterhaus and his wife, | ||||||
14 | Glori, and Paul M. Duesterhaus and his wife, Mary Ann, Mary | ||||||
15 | Beth Duesterhaus, Gregory L. Duesterhaus, Jonathan L. | ||||||
16 | Duesterhaus and his wife, Susan, Kevin F. Duesterhaus and his | ||||||
17 | wife, Sandy,, Timothy J. Duesterhaus and his wife, Teresa, and | ||||||
18 | Todd W. Duesterhaus and his wife, Taffy; her 26 grandchildren; | ||||||
19 | her 5 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Lillian Westphal and | ||||||
20 | Faith Ervin; her sisters-in-law, Neva Kenady and Gwen Kenady; | ||||||
21 | her brother-in-law, Melvin Arns; and her numerous nieces and | ||||||
22 | nephews; therefore, be it

1 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | ||||||
2 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
3 | her family and friends, the passing of Mary Lou Duesterhaus; | ||||||
4 | and be it further
| ||||||
5 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
6 | presented to the family of Mary Lou Duesterhaus as a symbol of | ||||||
7 | our sincere sympathy.
