1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Leslie H. Kenyon of East Peoria, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on January 14, 2011; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, He was born October 13, 1922, in Peoria to Camilla | ||||||
6 | Myers and Fred Kenyon; he married Theo Jean Ahrends on October | ||||||
7 | 23, 1954, in Peoria; he was a graduate of Peoria High School | ||||||
8 | and the University of Michigan, where he earned his degree in | ||||||
9 | architecture; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, During World War II he served in the United States | ||||||
11 | Army, first in a camouflage unit, and following engineering | ||||||
12 | training at State College, Pennsylvania, he was stationed in | ||||||
13 | Hawaii; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, As past president of the Central Illinois | ||||||
15 | Landmarks Foundation, he worked to save Peoria's heritage, | ||||||
16 | starting with the restoration of the Grand Army of the Republic | ||||||
17 | Hall on Hamilton Boulevard; as president of Peoria City | ||||||
18 | Beautiful in the 1960s, he led the petition drives to create | ||||||
19 | the plaza for the new Peoria County Courthouse, instead of a | ||||||
20 | parking lot, and also brought national speakers to talk on | ||||||
21 | preservation; and

1 | WHEREAS, As an architect, he restored the Peoria City Hall, | ||||||
2 | but also designed buildings, including Peoria Players Theatre | ||||||
3 | and the Constance Hall addition at Bradley University; in | ||||||
4 | Eureka, he restored the original Eureka College Chapel attended | ||||||
5 | by students in the 19th century; in addition to historic | ||||||
6 | preservation, his firm also has designed schools in the region, | ||||||
7 | churches, commercial businesses, and other structures; the | ||||||
8 | firm will continue under the Kenyon name; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Leslie Kenyon is survived by his wife, Theo; | ||||||
10 | therefore, be it
| ||||||
11 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | ||||||
12 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
13 | his family and friends, the passing of Leslie Kenyon; and be it | ||||||
14 | further

15 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
16 | presented to the family of Leslie Kenyon as a symbol of our | ||||||
17 | sincere sympathy.
