2 | WHEREAS, George E. Sangmeister served with distinction as a | ||||||
3 | justice of the peace, county magistrate, State's Attorney, | ||||||
4 | member of the Illinois House of Representatives, member of the | ||||||
5 | Illinois Senate, and U.S. Congressman; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, George E. Sangmeister served in the U.S. Army | ||||||
7 | between 1951 and 1953 in the Korean War; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Through George E. Sangmeister's efforts, Will | ||||||
9 | County became home to the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery; | ||||||
10 | and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, George E. Sangmeister passed away on October 7, | ||||||
12 | 2007; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Because of George E. Sangmeister's many years of | ||||||
14 | public service to his community, State, and country, it is | ||||||
15 | appropriate to honor him for such service; therefore, be it
| ||||||
16 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | ||||||
17 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES | ||||||
18 | CONCURRING HEREIN, that Route 53 from I-80 south to Hoff Road | ||||||
19 | be designated as the George E. Sangmeister Memorial Highway; | ||||||
20 | and be it further

1 | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation | ||||||
2 | be requested to erect, at suitable locations consistent with | ||||||
3 | State and federal regulations, an appropriate plaque or signs | ||||||
4 | giving notice of the name; and be it further

5 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
6 | presented to the family of George E. Sangmeister and the | ||||||
7 | Illinois Secretary of Transportation.
