1 AN ACT concerning local government.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Illinois Municipal Code is amended by
5changing Section 1-2-11 as follows:
6 (65 ILCS 5/1-2-11) (from Ch. 24, par. 1-2-11)
7 Sec. 1-2-11. (a) A sheriff may serve any process or make
8any arrest in a municipality or a part of a municipality
9located in the county in which the sheriff was elected that any
10officer of that municipality is authorized to make under this
11Code or any ordinance passed under this Code.
12 (b) Police officers may serve summons for violations of
13ordinances occurring within their municipalities. In
14municipalities with a population of 1,000,000 or more, active
15duty or retired police officers may serve summons for
16violations of ordinances occurring within their
17municipalities.
18 (c) In addition to the powers stated in Section 8.1a of the
19Housing Authorities Act, in counties with a population of
203,000,000 or more inhabitants, members of a housing authority
21police force may serve process for forcible entry and detainer
22actions commenced by that housing authority and may execute
23orders of possession for that housing authority.
