SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
20 ILCS 2610/19 new

Amends the State Police Act. Requires the Director of State Police to select and assign State Police officers for the security and protection of certain State officials. Authorizes the Director of State Police to select and assign State Police officers for the security and protection of other State officials and visiting dignitaries. Effective immediately.

1 AN ACT concerning State government.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The State Police Act is amended by adding
5 Section 19 as follows:
6 (20 ILCS 2610/19 new)
7 Sec. 19. The Director shall select and assign State Police
8 officers to provide security and protection for the Governor,
9 the Governor's immediate family, and the Executive Mansion, to
10 the extent and in the manner the Governor and the Director deem
11 adequate and appropriate. The Director shall select and assign
12 State Police officers to provide security and protection for
13 the State's Constitutional Officers and other elected
14 officials of the State. The Director may assign State Police
15 officers to provide security and protection for other State
16 officials based upon a threat assessment of the individual
17 requesting the protection. The Director may assign State Police
18 officers to assist the security details of visiting governors
19 and dignitaries. In the same manner, the Director shall provide
20 security and protection for the Governor-elect from the time of
21 election.
22 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
