Bill Title: Amends the Pertussis Vaccine Act. Provides that parents or guardians and immediate family members of a newborn child in a neonatal intensive care unit shall be offered an opportunity to receive the pertussis vaccine to minimize the chances that the disease will be communicated to the newborn child. Effective immediately.

1 AN ACT concerning health.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Pertussis Vaccine Act is amended by changing
5Section 4 as follows:
6 (410 ILCS 235/4) (from Ch. 111 1/2, par. 7504)
7 Sec. 4. Every hospital in this State licensed under the
8Hospital Licensing Act or an Act in relation to the founding
9and operation of the University of Illinois Hospital, shall
10provide the parents or guardians of each newborn child the
11pamphlet pursuant to Section 3 of this Act. Parents or
12guardians of a newborn child in a neonatal intensive care unit
13shall be informed about the importance of parents, guardians,
14and immediate family members being immunized against pertussis
15to minimize the chances that the disease will be communicated
16to the newborn child and shall also be informed about where
17they may obtain the appropriate vaccine.

19 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
