Bill Title: Amends the Illinois Highway Code. SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
605 ILCS 5/6-602 from Ch. 121, par. 6-602

Amends the Illinois Highway Code. Provides that a tax imposed by a road district for the purpose of constructing or maintaining gravel, rock, macadam or other hard roads, or for improving, maintaining or repairing earth roads by draining, grading, oil treating or dragging may be certified at any time after the election at which the referendum is approved. Effective immediately.

1 AN ACT concerning revenue.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Illinois Highway Code is amended by changing
5Section 6-602 as follows:
6 (605 ILCS 5/6-602) (from Ch. 121, par. 6-602)
7 Sec. 6-602. If a majority of all the ballots cast at such
8election on such proposition are in favor of such special tax,
9then the township board of trustees or highway board of
10trustees, as the case may be, or the highway commissioner in a
11county not under township organization of the road district
12shall levy an annual tax in accordance with such vote and
13certify the same to the county clerk. Such certification may
14occur any time after the election. That board of trustees or
15commissioner shall also cause a copy of such certificate of
16levy to be filed in the office of the district clerk as
17provided in Section 6-502 of this Code. The county clerk shall
18cause such levy, thus certified to him to be extended on the
19tax books for the current year and for each succeeding year as
20other taxes are extended. The highway commissioner of the road
21district may also receive donations in money, labor, materials
22or other valuable things to aid in such road construction.
23 Such special tax levy shall remain in effect until repealed

1by the legal voters of the road district, as provided in
2Section 6-617 of this Code.
