2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
Claude | ||||||
4 | Gamble, who passed away on October 22, 2010; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Claude Gamble was born on January 13, 1919, in | ||||||
6 | Clinton, Mississippi; he was born to the union of James Gamble | ||||||
7 | and Emma Warner; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Claude Gamble received his formal education in | ||||||
9 | Clinton and Bolton, Mississippi; he and his family lived in | ||||||
10 | Jackson, Mississippi before he migrated north to Hammond, | ||||||
11 | Indiana, where he continued his education; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Claude Gamble enlisted in the United States Army | ||||||
13 | at Fort Benjamin Harris on June 10, 1941 and served until his | ||||||
14 | honorable discharge on December 5, 1945; during his stint with | ||||||
15 | the Army, he fought in World War II and received several | ||||||
16 | military honors, including the American Defense Ribbon, the | ||||||
17 | American Theater Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, the | ||||||
18 | Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with Bronze Service Star, and | ||||||
19 | the World War II Victory Medal; during this time, he married | ||||||
20 | Lucy Rogers; together, the couple had one child and raised 2 | ||||||
21 | children; and

1 | WHEREAS, After completing his service with the military, | ||||||
2 | Claude Gamble returned to Hammond, Indiana and began working at | ||||||
3 | Pullman and American Steele, where he retired after 25 years; | ||||||
4 | he later met and married his soul mate, Dorothy Graves; the | ||||||
5 | couple subsequently moved to Chicago and raised their children; | ||||||
6 | and

7 | WHEREAS, Claude Gamble was preceded in death by his loving | ||||||
8 | wife, Dorothy; his parents; and his brothers, Deather, Willie | ||||||
9 | Bee, Lucy, and Lonnie; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Claude Gamble is survived by his children, Willie | ||||||
11 | Earl (Rosalyn), Brenda (Deloise), Sheilah, Yolanda (Keith), | ||||||
12 | Keith, Kim, and Brian (Ruthie); his grandchildren, Willena, | ||||||
13 | Jacquelin, Dawn, Dante, Danye, Bria, Jakobi, Kyndra, and Brooke | ||||||
14 | Dakota; his 8 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Tom, Jr. and | ||||||
15 | Ocie; his sister, Sarah (Eddie); his special cousin, Eddie | ||||||
16 | Davis; and his buddy, Jerry Griffin; therefore, be it

17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
18 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
19 | mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Claude | ||||||
20 | Gamble; and be it further

21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
22 | presented to the family of Claude Gamble as an expression of |
