HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
Representatives are pleased to honor our esteemed colleague,
State Representative Naomi Jakobsson, on her 12 years as a
member of the Illinois General Assembly and thank her for her
dedicated service to her State and her community; and
WHEREAS, Rep. Jakobsson is married to Eric Jakobsson and
together they raised 8 children and have 11 grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Prior to her election as State Representative of
the 103rd District in 2002, Rep. Jakobsson served as the
Champaign County Recorder of Deeds for 12 years; she also
served as interim director of a domestic violence shelter and
as the Executive Director of the University YWCA; and
WHEREAS, Rep. Jakobsson has worked to make sure that all
children have loving and caring homes; she has been active in
adoptive services and parent support groups, and she and her
husband have adopted 6 of their 8 children; in the Illinois
House of Representatives, she served as Vice-Chair of the
Adoption Reform Committee; and
WHEREAS, Rep. Jakobsson has been a tireless advocate for
the University of Illinois and Parkland College and their

students, faculty, and employees; she served as Chair of the
House Higher Education Committee; and
WHEREAS, Rep. Jakobsson has been a leader in the fight for
marriage equality in Illinois; thanks to her courage and
dedication to marriage equality, the Chicago House and Social
Service Agency honored Rep. Jakobsson with its 2014 Spirit
Award; and
WHEREAS, Rep. Jakobsson is dedicated to the preservation
and protection of our environment; she has worked to
significantly reduce mercury emissions, supported the addition
of more recycling bins in Illinois schools and offices, and
worked diligently to protect our natural resources like the
Mahomet aquifer; and
WHEREAS, Rep. Jakobsson has won multiple blue ribbons for
her scrumptious baked goods; and
WHEREAS, Rep. Jakobsson is a leader at McKinley Church,
where she and her husband Eric attend; and
WHEREAS, All who have served with Rep. Jakobsson will miss
her genuine dedication to everything she does, to her
community, and to the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
we honor and thank State Representative Naomi Jakobsson for her
years of dedicated service; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to Rep. Jakobsson as an expression of our respect and
esteem, and with our best wishes.
