2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of former | ||||||
4 | Illinois State Representative Eugene "Gene" Moore; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Eugene Moore began his political career in 1989, | ||||||
6 | when he was elected to serve as trustee for Proviso Township; | ||||||
7 | he later went on to become the first African-American elected | ||||||
8 | to represent the 7th District in the Illinois House of | ||||||
9 | Representatives, where he served for three terms and was | ||||||
10 | elected to a fourth term; in 1999, he was elected to serve as | ||||||
11 | Cook County Recorder of Deeds, where he served until 2012; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Following his service as Cook County Recorder of | ||||||
13 | Deeds, Eugene Moore remained in political circles, where he | ||||||
14 | talked passionately about community affairs, backed local | ||||||
15 | candidates, and mentored rising political figures like Maywood | ||||||
16 | Trustee Isiah Brandon; and

17 | WHEREAS, Eugene Moore was a member of the Second Baptist | ||||||
18 | Church in Maywood; he was a football and basketball coach and | ||||||
19 | mentor to youths in Proviso Township; he also served on | ||||||
20 | numerous boards, including those of the Boys and Girls Club of | ||||||
21 | West Cook County, the Proviso-Leyden Council on Community | ||||||
22 | Action, John C. Vaughns Scholarship Fund, Inc., and the |

1 | Community Economic Development Association; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Eugene Moore was the loving father of three | ||||||
3 | children, Dowanna, Natalie, and Eric; therefore, be it
| ||||||
4 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
5 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
6 | we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of | ||||||
7 | former Illinois State Representative Eugene "Gene" Moore; and | ||||||
8 | be it further

9 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
10 | presented to the family of Eugene Moore as an expression of our | ||||||
11 | sympathy.
