1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to recognize the 2014-2015 State officers | ||||||
4 | of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA); | ||||||
5 | and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, The FCCLA is an organization built as an | ||||||
7 | accompaniment to the curriculum of Family and Consumer Sciences | ||||||
8 | education in public and private schools through grade 12 and | ||||||
9 | strives to prepare students to be productive family members, | ||||||
10 | wage earners, and community leaders; the organization began in | ||||||
11 | 1945 as the Future Homemakers of America with the family as its | ||||||
12 | central focus and remains today the only in-school student | ||||||
13 | organization with that focus; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, In order to be selected as a FCCLA State officer, | ||||||
15 | students must run for election; students run by announcing | ||||||
16 | their intent in their local high school chapter; they present a | ||||||
17 | speech at the Section level in order to receive a vote of | ||||||
18 | confidence and then fill out an application resume; they then | ||||||
19 | present a speech and answer questions before the voting | ||||||
20 | delegates and audience gathered at the State conference; from | ||||||
21 | the pool of candidates, 7 are elected by majority vote to serve | ||||||
22 | as the State Executive Council for the next school year; those | ||||||
23 | students are then brought together for a 3-day training seminar |

1 | in which they get to know each other and learn how to work | ||||||
2 | together; at the training, the candidates give another speech | ||||||
3 | and are interviewed by a panel of alumni; following that, each | ||||||
4 | officer and each of the panel members vote as to which officer | ||||||
5 | will hold which office within the organization; and

6 | WHEREAS, Once the officers are assigned, they work together | ||||||
7 | the entire year planning and carrying out the various | ||||||
8 | responsibilities of FCCLA as well as their specific office; the | ||||||
9 | students learn many essential skills throughout the year and | ||||||
10 | the FCCLA provides many opportunities for students to take on | ||||||
11 | leadership roles and display their abilities; and

12 | WHEREAS, The 2014-2015 FCCLA State Officers are Lauren | ||||||
13 | Becherer from Prospect High School in Mt. Prospect;
Clayton | ||||||
14 | Lindley from Mount Pulaski High School in Mount Pulaski; Tarryn | ||||||
15 | Gardner from Knoxville High School in Knoxville;
Emily Grebner | ||||||
16 | from Kewanee High School in Kewanee; Katie Spring from | ||||||
17 | R.O.W.V.A. High School in Oneida; Olivia Hanzel from Liberty | ||||||
18 | High School in Liberty; and Courtney Pogue from Cisne High | ||||||
19 | School in Cisne; therefore, be it

20 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
21 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
22 | we recognize the 2014-2015 State officers of the Family, Career | ||||||
23 | and Community Leaders of America; and be it further
